Wow, yet another reason to love this phone.. it supports ssl/tls for mail
Here are the settings. These are for FIDO but since we are using SSL on another port than 25, it works without having to use gprs.fido.ca for the smtp server
ok.. first to create a new account:
Messaging --> email --> settings --> Account settings --> New Account
You are asked to create an account name.
gmail
Once that is done, you automatically move on to the setup screens.
Connect Using: GPRS Data Account, not WAP. In my case FIDO (using internet.fido.ca APN)
Protocol: POP3
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com
Incoming Port: 995
Encryption --> Incoming Server: TLS/SSL
Encryption --> Outgoing Server: TLS/SSL
Mailbox: username@gmail.com
Password: your password
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing Port: 465
Email Address: username@gmail.com
Download: Whatever your preference is
From Name: Whatever you want
Signature: Your signature
Copy Outgoing: off
Check Interval: Whatever your preference
Click done, off you go!
How sweet this handset is![]()

you rock,
thanks.
What are data charges like when using this for gmail? I've avoided mail/surfing because of the high data costs....
Thx for the settingsOriginally Posted by ShovelhEd

Come on Curtis.. ya know ya wanna.
I have this working on my phone too, the problem is that I've had gmail for over a year and I have thousands of emails, it seems to want to download EVERY single old email I have. Each time it connects, it downloads 100 emails, fills the inbox, and when I delete all of them, it downloads 100 more.
Any way to only make it pull new, unread emails?
i wonder it did not work on my S700i is because of the i use wap connection to from tmo?
if i have the internet plan from tmo, would i fetch gmail email?
has anyone tried to fetch gmail email using unlimited internet plan?

the settings (on gmail) you can select what it downloads in the POP3 configuration area.Originally Posted by Zorn

no go on tmobile here in the us. Anyone have ideas?
each email read or sent is at least 3-4K. Each checking of email (even with nothing uploaded/downloaded) is 1-2K. File attachments (like pictures) will have the size inflated too because of encoding.Originally Posted by spill6
i.e. you don't want it on an ongoing basis unless you have unlimited data.
anyone have the settings for rogers??? i'm assuming they'll be the same for the s710, and i can't seem to get that to work!
