Do I just pop in my SIM card?

My current phone is dying on me and I'm looking to get a new phone. If I just purchase one off the internet, do I just put in my current SIM card into the new phone and start using it? Or do I have to bring it to t-mobile store to activate it? I'm thinking of getting an unlocked phone if that changes anything.

yes, as long as the phone is a t-mobile one, or its unlocked, then your good to go once you pop in your sim, the only thing you will need to do, is if you plan to use wap, or MMS, you will need to have the setting sent to your new phone. at the top of the t-mobile forum, there is a sticky for the settings to configure for these.

Besides being unlocked you need to be sure it lists 1900 as one of the bands it uses.

Or also if it is from a company that became part of T-Mobile. For example, older Voicestream and Omnipoint phones should work as well.

    One more thing....

If you decided to put most of your numbers into the phone memory and not on the sim, like I did... then you may want to write those down, THEN add them to the SIM memory, if you have room for them. I have WAY too many names and numbers for my sim, so I have to back up on phone as well...

Thanks everyone. I actually entered all my numbers into my computer last night. My ext. screen keeps turning off on my samsung s105. I can feel it's going to die soon. The internal screen blacks out every once in a while too.

Now I just have to search for a new phone. I asked about the unlocked phones because the tmo doesn't seem to have a lot of grown up phones.

Growing up in San Francisco, you see a lot of famous people...

Sharon Stone, and ex husband Bronstein...
    Robin Williams..
Chris Issac..who lived at one point with..
    MARGARET CHO!!!

Yes, when I see a phone I like, I walk over and smile and if it smiles back I feel comfortable, but when I feel really comfortable I walk over and say..."STICK IT IN!!"
