what you guys think about the gprs and sms charges? too expensive? or too cheap

I ran into the roger CS yesterday, he claim couple thing below:
1. Roger is the first one implement gsm in north american. (I think is wrong)
2. There are no GSM company in US
3. he claim the WAP and SMS is the next big thing. (I agree except the price is too high.)
4. SMS 10 cent a message is cheap. It also will not cost you receieving SMS, no matter which plan you in. even you do not have any SMS option on your plan.

he and me argue for 30 min, he piss off and stop talking.
5. He also say the wireless WAP is cheap, only 0.03 per k. I said somone check the air canada flight schedule. it cost him $7.00 for that wap access. That all he use WAP. i think it is too expensive.

I think roger brainwash their CS.

I want to hear honest opinion, are SMS and WAP expensive or everyone think is cheap?

With the corporate plan I have, sending SMS is 0.15$/ea, and I have 2500 incoming SMS 'no charge'.

Still 0.15$ is expensive. Same thing with emails.

But, that's the price.....!

I don't want to pay for a 'package' because I don't know how many I'm getting every month !!!!! Should be included in their plan, just to get their customers to try it !!!!!!!!!

Fido was the first GSM provider in canada (I am not too sure if they were the first in north america. AT&T, Cingular, T Mobile currently offer GSM service in the states.

Yes, Rogers CSR's know ****@ll about Hardware and Data services, thats why you talk to delears about hardware inquires/troubleshooting and speak to Data support for any data service issues.

Ask treats about their SMS packages ?

Personally, data service is a load of crap. If I really wanted to know the wheather, I'd stick my head out the bus window. It's pretty expensive too.

man is it expensive...i'm currently "trying out" the $20/month data plan and its pretty useless and stupid (aside from downloading some themes/ringtones from wap) but there isn't anything i can't do with my laptop and an infrared port the the phone.

1.5MB/month is very little...add to that $20 and its like getting another phone plan. WAY to expensive. if they want SMS and GPRS to be "the next big thing" they have to make it so that its accesible to the average consumer.

well besides fido.. rogers is the next provider who implemient gsm in north america.. the american companies didn't even launch gsm for another 3-4 months afterwards...

Text messaging is $.15 per sent and 2500 free incoming regardless of the plan and without a text message package.......

This was changed back in June from $.10 per sent/received..... to $.15 sent/2500 free incoming...

I admit that browsing directly on your phone isn't really great, but if you have a t68i you can use bluetooth instead of infrared. And if you have a laptop of PDA with bluetooth, you can connect to the Internet through your phone via GPRS. You can be walking down the street with your phone in your pocket and browsing web pages or checking email live on your PDA. It's pretty cool if you have it setup this way, and suddenly has the potential to become extremely useful (like controlling your desktop or server remotely through your PDA, while walking down the street).

I agree, however, that Rogers pricing for data is outrageously expensive. I use up 1.5mb in one session, checking email, going to a few websites, etc. And that 1.5mb costs $20! And 0.02 per kb is even more crazy expensive!! It doesn't sound like a lot, but do the math. 0.02/kb, and 1mb = 1000kb, then 1mb at 0.02/kb = $20!! That's $20 per mb.

Even their corporate data plans are ridiculous! I would use up the allocated data within a day, and then I'm back to spending an extra $20 per mb. Outrageous!! How can Rogers expect people to use this service when i would be using at least $20 per day of data?

how many people would use CSD if it was charged as Data TIME, instead of data per kb.

i would take the decrease in speed of CSD in a SECOND, rather then pay the just rediclious rates that GPRS has.

to be fair; its expensive EVERYWHERE. the nice thing is that finally these mobile companies will be able to post profits.

since all things are digital now, the difference between 101001010= "Hello" and 1010100101010101="web graphic" is minimal in terms of network bandwith, but the charges are wayyyy different.

imagine if voice calls were billed per kb they used. HAHAHAHAHA.

just think about it this way, why is it that WIRELESS VOICE, is sooo cheap, but wireless data ie, TEXT is so expensive, what uses more bandwith, and is more complicated to send?

the industry is kinda backwards, but hey, like i said; for the first times they see profits on the horizon, must be tempting.

i dread the day MMS becomes avaliable. think about 5 bucks per message!!!

Not quite fair. Doesn't Sprint have unlimited data on their PCS Vision network? It's bundled with voice services now.

The SMS charges don't seem to bad for me. I use it now and then...often enough to enjoy it, but not alot, like some people! *Ehem* Treatz

The GPRS though, OUCH!!! $120 for GPRS charges for one day! I posted a thread about that a while ago. That was not fun. 3mb browsing on my phone in one day, and $120 later.
I decided to take off the GPRS for a while and see if I can live without it.

ok, IMO, i still find $0.10/SMS out can get expensive for the avg user. instead of charging per SMS out, they might as well offer an unlimited package for a reasonable amt of $.

i think they should also do the same for GPRS and offer an unlimited package. hehe...

anyway, thank god for GPRS trial periods and my royal bank corp plan's unlimited ougoing SMSs.
