you might be able to do it if you pay $40 and tell the customer service people what you want to do.

Right now my cell phone account is in my father's name but I am starting a new contract in my own name. Is it possible to have the phone number switched from my current account to the new account? I'm planning on closing my current account at the end of the billing cycle. I do not mind paying a small fee if necessary.
Thanks!

It's called an AOS (Assumption Of Service) What you are doing is assuming legal responsibility for you mobile phone. There shouldn't be a charge for this procedure.Originally posted by whgp

I did exactly what you are doing and I got the biggest headache. After doing that with a rep from verizon hq, I called them 3 months later to cancel my plan (the one that just expired). They told me that none of my plans were even close to expiring! Aparently, the rep renewed both contracts when he switched the phones. I eventually escalated the conversations to the 2 managers on duty, and they accused me of trying to take advantage of verizon, and that they will enfore the early termination policy. I finally sorted things out through customer retention. For the record, verizon thinks they did me a favor allowing me to cancel one of my phones..... even though I had the phone (and service plan) for 25 months. Maybe it was just me.... but goodluck!
Make sure you are talkig to a Verizon CS agent. In Washington and Oregon they have outsourced customer service and they never do it right! I now ask when I call 611 where are you located. I know what city the outsource call center is, so I ask to be transferred. Saves alot of problems and headaches!!!
