Humpa & redbulllova,
Allright, I played around with it a bit, and here's what I found and did....
I guess first of all it should be mentioned that the terminology Motorola uses for
Display Timeout and
Backlight are not quite what you (I?) would expect them to be. (At least they weren't to me....but mebbie I jus dum...

)
It should be understood that
Display Timeout means the dimmer lighting that eventually "times out", and that the
Backlight is the brighter lighting that stays on for a short period before dropping in brightness to the dimmer light. At least that's how I seem to understand it....
What would really be nice is; if you could have the bright backlight do its thing for 10, 20, 30, 50 (or whatever) seconds, and then have the backlight automatically switch to a
continuous dim light. You can't though....cause that would make sense....
The first thing I did was the SEEM edit to the 0A/7 SEEM, which is supposed to be for
"Continuous dims backlight instead of shutting off". However, when you do the actual SEEM edit itself, checking it just changes it to say "continuous" next to the box you check. I checked this box to turn this function "on".
Now the phone has "Continuous" in the menu for the backlight. (Main Menu>Settings>Initial Setup>Backlight>Change) Although it's now there, and you can select it, the "choice" of
Continuous ends up just getting you the next lower value which is
50 seconds.
Hmmm.......

After playing with it a bit, I came up with this procedure:
1 -
Main Menu>Settings>Initial Setup>Display Timeout>Change Change this to "Off"
2 - Scroll down to the next menu item in
Initial Setup which is
Backlight. Select
Change> select
Continuous>select
Change. It won't really switch to continuous at this time,
but if you do it
again and select
50 seconds, it will (now) actually show
Continuous when you select
Change. Yeah, I know....
What this gets you is a continuous bright backlight with no timeout, and no automatic dimming. The keypad
does go off when you close the flip though. Still.....it's probably not ideal for battery life. So I did this.....
3 - Next, from the main display, select
Main Menu>Settings>Initial Setup>Brightness and hold the menu key until a shortcut is created. This will allow you to get to the brightness setting in two key presses from the main display. Although this is not as cool as having a brightness "timeout" that reverts to a continuous "dim" after a certain period of time, it will still allow a continuous dim backlight, that's (relatively) easy to adjust brighter for use in direct sunlight.
I never tried any of this before enabling the 0A/7 SEEM, so I have no idea if this was already possible.
I now have the extended battery from Motorola, and have not (yet, in the last two weeks) been able to kill it in a day. Today I've had the phone on all day, made about an hour's worth of calls, had this setup above enabled for about 4 hours now, and I still show full battery bars. I guess time will tell....
