BTW, RE: Bluetooth Adapters/dongles for your PC...
The Belkin 100Meter suggested by Sclark1000... Too expensive.. uses older widcomm v1.4.2.10 drivers, supports only HCI 1.0/1.1. You'll never get 100meter range as the V710 and E815 are class 2 devices (30meter range).
The Kensington Adapter... There is one Nice one. It Uses the Widcomm v3 drivers, supports HCI 1.0/1.1/1.2. Its class 2. AFAIK it uses Broadcomm BCM2035 radio chip. But there is also another Kensington USB BT dongle that uses Widcomm v1.4.2 drivers, supports HCI 1.0/1.1 and uses a Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR) chip inside. But I don't remember the model numbers.
Also look at the Ambicomm BT2000C-USB (compusa has for $29.99). Circuit City and Best Buy used to carry for $39.99... It uses Widcomm V3 drivers, supports HCI 1.0/1.2/1.2 and is class 2. Definately uses Broadcomm BCM2035 bluetooth radio chip. (I have one).
I just wanted to update my previous post...I have been fiddling with MPT and found in the Melody section of the software you can edit mp3s. After editing my mp3s down to around 300KB, they download fine to the phone. However, from the same pane, if I attempt to select the entire song, the software will eventually tell me the phone has disconnected. A step in the right direction, but I would like to download entire mp3s to play from my phone.
If anyone has some information on this, please respond.

They will upgrade you to the oem cable for $5 more - money well spent, considering how cheap you're getting the software for.

Hello, I was just wondering if it would be possible to unlock the MP3 player and memory expansion slot on my E815 without having a Bluetooth card for my adaptor. I have the USB cable but the directions for the modding seem to indicate that you must have Bluetooth connectivity.
If it is possible, how would I follow the steps differently?

If you don't have bluetooth, and don't plan on it, you just need to do steps 1, 5, 6, 7, & 8. You can skip step 2...
If you plan on using MPT, then at some point you have to do steps 3 & 4. And Step 4... change "go to setup/new phone/Bluetooth;" to go to setup/new phone/USB Cable... When its finished finding your modem... go use MPT's SETUP menu -> General Setup -> Communication tab -> Change Modem -> click Next -> (select device screen, highlight your Moto USB modem) -> click Next -> check the box for "Do not automatically detect the driver -> click Next -> Select CDMA from the left column. Select E815M from the right column and click Next and finish.

Some of you are having problems with the E815 driver. After a late night at work and little sleep, this morning I sent a few of you an invalid download link; please uninstall/delete that file.
The driver posted on the first page is correct. If you are still having problems, or trying to add the phone in mpt with usb, then I suggest the following:
Plug your BT dongle or USB adpater into another port; windows will ask for the drivers or install the generic driver. If you have built in bluetooth, go to the device manager and remove the bt port and scan for new hardware. It's possible you will have to reinstall your BT software; when BT is installed properly, there will only be one bluetooth radio listed in device manager. For bt, rebond/re-pair your phone to pc.
Now try to add your phone to MPT by bt or usb. When you get the phone installed and mpt works, you should be able to update MPT by going to setup/live update; keep updating until it is version 3.25b.
Some links with additional information which may be useful:
If you are still having problems, you likely need an assistant who can walk you through windows hardware install & driver updates.
Do not PM me with requests for help installing your hardware (see above). I refer you back to the first post - the information there is correct; people who have the phone working used same the methods.

Which files do I click on to install from the e815 drivers. Most of them don't do anything when I click on them and Device Manager can't find a better match for the files already installed even though it can't connect to my phone in BitPim. This is the 7th type of Moto I've connected to my PC with the data cable and never had problems like this before, (although there is often problems ).
well my problem is more with The seem from Bfeinzimers stuff, I installed the 815 drivers got everything working MPT even recognizes my phone as a e815m, the problem with my thing is that 1. The verizon logo still shows up on the outside and 2. Everytime i try to transfer a music file (4mb renamed mp3 to mid) it gets to about half way and bombs saying the phone cut out the transfer, Although i got my phone to accept the seem edit pretty easily does anyone know how to seem edit so the filetransfer thru mpt can work with USB?

If you apply the seem edit listed in this thread, music files transfer fine. The hack listed here is for mp3 transfers; if you rename to mid, don't expect it to work.
If you are applying BFEINZIMER seem, you're in the wrong thread. Go here

You might want to check the USBSER.SYS info... It might be the cause of your problem....
1) "install the XP drivers" - how? With a binary executable, or through Device Manager? How should someone expect to install the drivers through Device Manager if the phone hasn't been connected to the system by USB or BT yet? I've connected by USB and BT, and I've installed the drivers manually, but I'm not sure that the correct driver is in place because nobody has posted version information yet.
Here's the version info from mine:
Motorola USB Modem driver
dated 10/15/2004, version 3.4.0.0, provider Motorola
2) Updating Mobile Phone Tools - Many people have v3.11h. If you go to Help -> Update, there's nothing there, and if you go to Setup by right-clicking the tray icon or in the menu, there's no Update/Live Update choice.
UPDATE: If you don't have a version of MPT with the Live Update to start, you'll need to find another one. I had an old CD, and 3.11 doesn't cut it in most cases as a base install. This should be added to the tutorial...
3) PST 7.1.1 isn't anywhere to be easily found, so don't put it out there without expecting people to flood looking for it...
First EXCELLENT Tutorial.. All though I'm a little embarrased that the screw up thread referenced was mine =) hehe..
And second, I'll try to fill in the blanks on these questions...

Connect you phone via USB and when it asks for the driver location point to the location that you extracted the files too. It will ask for this location several times.

I did not have v3.11h, but other versions can be found very easily.. Google is amazing.

It took less than fifteen minutes to find it on google. typing it EXACTLY as you have it above.

Keep in mind... MPT isn't freeware.. it just so happens that it is available for download on many sites, but the only legal way to download it is to purchase online from BVRP.COM and download.
With that in mind... there is/was a "hacked" version of 3.11h floating around on the net... It will not update. So if that is what you have... that could be why you can't update.
Connect your phone via USB and when it asks for the driver, point to the E815 driver folder. Be Patient and wait until all the components are installed - it takes awhile. If you try & fail, plug into another usb port & start over. That's all there is to it.

This is the exact file name PST_7.1.1.rar Copy, paste & ye shall find. We are not allowed to provide any links, etc to such a file. Those are the forum rules.

You can even start with an old legit MPT 2.0 CD and it will update fine to 3.25b. Hacked software doesn't work.
Remember people, this is a Quick Start Guide and requires effort on your part to learn, do the hard work and get it done. It does work and you can get it done.
