    NOOB with a ?

    Thanks for the info.

I know im a total noob for asking this but i am a total noob with cell phone hacks etc...

I intend on using bluetooth and obex on my e815 so i was wondering if I could even make the seem edits using bluetooth. Or must I also have a usb data cable to make any/all modifications? If so any particular place I should buy from? Ill also need to buy MPT i guess.

    Thanks in Advance

Question Some differences for the MPT seem hack

Has anyone else that used the original seem hack from daveyp225 notice that bit 3 is unchecked? The rest for line 60 are correct. MPT seems to work fine without it checked. Anyone know if there is a difference - or am I just smoking crack?

That's what I ended up doing the first time, but other problems had me concerned it was a driver issue... seems fine.

I'm seeing a lot of messages from people who seem to be finding v3.11, so I think it's worth adding a note that an unhacked version of MPT is required. It's worth getting from BVRP, in any event.

Well... on that note, I had lousy luck.

You can NOT do the seem edits over bluetooth. You must use a USB Data cable to do seem edits.

If you need a cable and MPT... My suggestion... Packages of MPT bundled with a USB Data cable are available from Motorola for $59.99, Verizon Wireless for $39.99 (Navigate to where they sell accessories for the Moto V710 or E815, its under "Data Products"), Verizon customers eligible for B2B discounts can purchase it cheaper. Or you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere. For example, people on eBay are selling MPT v2 with a data cable for around $20. (Version 2 is old, but can be updated online if you don't mind large downloads)

There is also a version of MPT available directly from BVRP Software however I am not sure how different it is from the Motorola branded version, and it appears to NOT include a USB Data cable. They do sell data cables extra.

    Bluetooth error

I'm getting an error when trying to connect the phone to MPT via Bluetooth (Linksys USBBT100 adapter):

    "Comm port Installation failed"

I was getting the spinning hour glass and the phone couldn't be detected; the BT driver fix solved that problem.

Now, I get past that point. "Motorola phone" is discovered properly, but when I go to click Next to install it, I get that error message.

I tried pairing the device with the BT driver first -- no luck. I unpaired it in the driver, and the MPT software offered to discover/pair; after that, I got the same error message.

    Any ideas?

Update: Power cycling the phone did the trick.

    E815 Custom Banner

    E815 Custom Banner

    Change Internal "Verizon Wireless" Banner

    seem 296a, bytes 20, record 0005 and 0006

    Change Internal "Extended Network" Banner

    seem 296a, bytes 20, record 0007 and 0008

    Change Internal "Roaming" Banner

    seem 296a, bytes 20, record 0009

Change External "Verizon Wireless" Banner WITH FLIP OPEN

    seem 2771, bytes 20, record 1

DO NOT INCLUDE COMMAS into the SD MODIFIED P2K!

REMEMBER BACK UP EVERYTHING FIRST! Meaning load from phone THEN SAVE TO FILE! Then proceed to edit the seems!

You can open the seem in Notepad....edit it then save it back and load it to the phone!

Just thought I would make an addition to the thread since the information was widespread....I apologize if this has already been stated in the thread.

ecko, a seem edit may also be made to seem 296a, bytes 20, record 000A. It also modifies an internal "Extended Network" banner.

    8. Now we have to configure Mobile Phone Tools to allow multimedia file transfers. Open mpt, select your E815 profile. Go to setup/general setup/communication tab/change modem. Click Change modem & next; select other device and next. Select one of the Bluetooth com ports. The first one I tried didn’t work; had to come back & change it to the other one & now it works. Uncheck Install TAPI modem and click next. Check Do Not Automatically Install the Driver. Select from List, and click next. Select Motorola CDMA and choose E815m (not E815) from list and click next. Click Finished & Ok. Shut down mpt. Shutdown & restart phone; start mpt. After initialization, you’ll see the new & beautiful Multimedia Studio icon in the tool bar on right. Joy!
One question: My bluetooth accessories are on order so just interested for now to enable files transfers via PC, what steps need omitted or added instead of Bluetooth com ports if any. Thanks.

I saw some questions regarding the size of images to create for wallpapers floating around the forum.

    176X220

    gets you what you need.

I propose that we add additional information to the first post in the thread to avoid tons of searching through this thread which Im sure will become very large. Ie the info that ekco posted regarding the banner seem edits should go in the first post (assumeing its not stickied)
The Motorola Star Tac series may go down in history as the greatest cell phones ever made.

If you are using a USB cable to your PC, just change the words... BLUETOOTH COM PORT to MOTOROLA USB MODEM.
