For PST yes.
For MPT I just let it install the Motorola USB Modem (thats what it was called as far as I recall) or whatever it defaulted to (not pointing it to the e815 driver folder that I downloaded separately).. . But at the time I didn't realize that I was even going to use MPT for what I was trying to accomplish. Or maybe I did need MPT just for the Motorola USB Modem driver it installed? I have no idea.
I'm thinking it may be my cable. I just bought a cheapo from Radio Shack.
I hope that's not this problem as it's a fresh out of package from VZW MPT.
I was at things for quite sometime today and probably just need some more reading and a good nights sleep to get MPT to show me the Multi-Media Icon with a cable.

Go Motorola! E815!!!
MirrorMirror On The Wall, What Is The Most Fairest Cellphone Of All.
Now we have to configure Mobile Phone Tools to allow multimedia file transfers. Open mpt, select your E815 profile. Go to setup/general setup/communication tab/change modem. Click Change modem & next; select other device and next. Select one of the Bluetooth com ports. The first one I tried didn’t work; had to come back & change it to the other one & now it works. Uncheck Install TAPI modem and click next. Check Do Not Automatically Install the Driver. Select from List, and click next. Select Motorola CDMA and choose E815m (not E815) from list and click next. Click Finished & Ok. Shut down mpt. Shutdown & restart phone; start mpt. After initialization, you’ll see the new & beautiful Multimedia Studio icon in the tool bar on right. Joy!
if you dont have a bluetooth dongle, and you want your cable to work....you NEED to choose your motorola phone instead of "other device" which i made bold above so you know what i'm talking about
Yeah, Thanks for the feedback: I found the problem if it ever really was one, more like i just overlooked this as i'm sure some others will, so here it what happens:
After seem applied opened MPT time and time again (E815m) afterwards with no results for Multi-Media UNTILL! "changed profile": Now IT IS WORKING!!! And i been having a wonderful time transferring pics to and fro using this NEW feature. I was just excited today i suppose from all the great encouragements found and was rushing into things a bit hastily.
I propose that we add additional information to the first post in the thread to avoid tons of searching through this thread

Beyond the scope of this thread, which is enabling the basic features & learning how to use the tools to accomplish that. Good topics for a customization thread...

Stick with Moto oem cable & you can't go wrong.

Congratulations! We'll likely see more of these as people get the hang of it.
A final thought. Keep in mind this is a Quick Start guide. To show what steps need to be done in what order, and do it in the shortest time possible. We're keeping the range of topics to just these things. Otherwise, it would be a called a User Manual; do you really want to read one of those?

Thanks so much for taking the time writing this up. My cable and MPT arrived today from Verizon and I had Obex enabled 10 mins later. I'm pretty sure I would of eventually got it but I know your instructions saved a ton of time! Just transfered 5 mp3's and about 20 wallpapers in no time! Thanks again!
Just a quick FYI to all those having problems with PST on winXP sp2.. I had similar issues.. I wound up using RSD Lite and it worked gread. You have limited options in it compared to PST, but it allows P2k to connect fine.
Ok, I can get through to the very last part of the very last step. But my phone just won't initialize
The MPT is stuck at "initializing..." and won't actually initialize. Anyone know why?
Have you tried changing to a "NEW" profile to see if that helps: After i seemed and rebooted and all that MPT just sat there "initializing". Didn't happen before edit: But that Repeated too many times to count untill i decided to change from Default Profile to whatever name you want to make it and follow thru the steps provided here:
