Nope, no device conflicts in hardware profiles... well, none that have to do with this, anyway.

I tried to do a new profile, but now when I try to install the detected "motorola e815m", it says commport failed! grrr

    This is so hard

*edit* omg! it worked! I'm confused as to WHY... but who cares? hooray!

Now to figure out how this thing works...

It is hard for most of us going at this the first time but "try" to be patient as you can, this forum is teeming with experts and members alike who will post their experiences. Takes a lot of reading, at least it did for me, but your answer will come:
I noticed afterwards when MPT was stuck "initializing" on me it never made any beeps, after (in my case) when i created a new profile and tried it the E815m was "Beeping" a few tones then the Menu loaded sweet as can be with the Multi-Media Icon.

Your issue may be different but i suggest.....

If you don't have bluetooth, and don't plan on it, you just need to do steps 1, 5, 6, 7, & 8. You can skip step 2...
If you plan on using MPT, then at some point you have to do steps 3 & 4. And Step 4... change "go to setup/new phone/Bluetooth;" to go to setup/new phone/USB Cable... When its finished finding your modem... go use MPT's SETUP menu -> General Setup -> Communication tab -> Change Modem -> click Next -> (select device screen, highlight your Moto USB modem) -> click Next -> check the box for "Do not automatically detect the driver -> click Next -> Select CDMA from the left column. Select E815M from the right column and click Next and finish.

    http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=674803

Hope you get it working for you soon: I know the aggravation all too well.

thanks for that. I tried that method, too, and it worked like a charm.

But as per a few annoyances, I have these questions:

    1) Can we set pictures/mp3s/etc. on the transflash card as a contact photo/ringtone/etc.? I have found this isn't possible so far.

    and

    2) Is there a way to directly transfer files from the Multimedia center to the transflash card as opposed to the phone memory?

    and still

    3) Is there a way to get rid of all those annoying graphics and midis that were stock on the phone?

Any/all information provided/pointed to is greatly appreciated. Thanks much again.

    just starting off

this question may be very late in the game, but i just traded my LG8100 for an e815. so far so good. one of the main reasons i switched was the e815 ability to play MP3s and PC sync Outlook contacts/calendar. in trying to follow the threads, i have a primary question. what do i need to buy and install to PC sync my Outlook contacts/calendar with the phone? do i need to hack, for a lack of better words, as instructed here? or can i just buy the Mobile Phone Tools 3.0 (CD and cable) and be able to sync? any advise would be greatly appreciated. is the hacking necessary to basically sync?

I know lots of people have q's, and I do as well, but I was wondering if anyone had a response to my q a few pages ago? I also have one more, in my device manager, i have an "other devices" area, and heres the device thats not installing "pci simple communications controller". Now, if I point it to the e815xpdrivers folder, it does not find a driver. Any ideas?

UPDATE: I was able to make the seem edit, that was layed out in this guide finally. The thing is, I still have that device conflict.

Now, if I want to use a usb cable to transfer mp3/wallpaper using MPT, how do I enable that now? I do not see the extra icon in my MPT. Newest version, 3.25b.

has been discussed in other threads... Ringers and photos to be used for "picture id's" must reside in the phone's main memory, NOT on the TF card.

Yes. When you start MPT, open Multimedia Center... Using Mobile Explorer function, on the My Phone tab... you will see MMC(Removable) as one of the Phone's folders (if you don't see it, try clicking the Root folder button)... that is the TF card... Ringers/Mp3's go under Motorola -> Shared -> Audio... Pictures go under Motrola -> Shared -> Picture... Video's go under Motorola -> Shared -> Videos.

You can use bitpim to delete the stuff. But I'd say just leave it there. Even with the amount of memory it took up on the V710, I'd still say just let it go.

Connect phone to usb cable; in device mger, uninstall the error device. Scan for new hardware, and point to the E815 driver folder - if it doesn't contain a driver 'for your hardware', then you have some other unrelated driver issue. If so, fix that before going back to phone setup.

    Thanks

Thanks to all who have contributed to getting this to work and helping all of us who have no idea what we're doing. Your infinite patience is very much appreciated. I followed the guide word for word but I don't have my usb bluetooth dongle yet, so I skipped that part, but everything works perfectly. Thanks again!
    Kudos!

For contacts/calendar all you need is the USB cable and MPT. No hacking is required. With a settings change in MPT you can use the cable to transfer pictures and short sound clips.

is there any way around this? I have bluetooth on my PC connecting fine with the phone and don't want to have to buy a USB cable just to enable OBEX.

    thanks!

Could you perhaps add to your guide that once you have the configuration for your phone set, be intelligent about problems.

    That is...

I can synch withMPT, dial up, obex, etc, everything. This morning I could obex, but not dialup or MPT sync. I started messing with drivers and modem setups, etc, and then I simply rebooted the phone and poof! Seems once windows gets ahold of a device like this phone through bluetooth, it won't let go and sometimes your device just needs a break from windows to set itself straight.

I would recommend the first thing anyone does when they are having a problem is to reboot the phone.

    Just a thought.

Not a thought at all but is good practice, others might call that power cycling i think, doesn't hurt to reboot the PC also as Windows in any fashion can be
    stubborn sometimes.
It's also a good idea because it will refresh the memory and free up anything that might have caused some conflict or interference.

To that i will point you directly to what is just been posted about suggestions you might wish to suggest be added.
