the number you have dialed is not a working number

I live in the Oregon\washington area and when people call me sometimes they have been getting a greeting from cingular saying, "The number you have dialed is not a working number" and sometimes when I call other cingular customers I get that message, and then a few hours later the same numbers work fine. This problem has been going on for a few weeks. It doesnt seem to be specific to my number or phone because its been happening all of the sudden to other cingular customers in my area. Customer service just seems to get confused when I start to talk about it. Does anyone have any insight to what is going on?
    Thx
    Jacob

Omg! It's happening to one of my friends too!!

Currently though he can't receive any calls because the sim card isn't showing up in the system. Other than that no one know why it's doing this.

Please post an update if you find out what it is.

T-Mobile was having HUGE outages in the Chicago area and that's exactly what would happen when I called a T-Mobile customer. Could be a tower overload or the tower could go offline for some reason or another.

Hi this is going on all over america is seems, only with cingular customers...

cingular is basically stealing your money and they are giving you the worst service that I have ever seen with a cell phone company...

What also happens when you call cingular customers is

You pick up only to hear silence.

Call a working number and it says its disconnected.

Call ends in middle of conversation, then says all cuiciuts are busy...

calls go directly to voicemail, even without the phone ringing...

lets face it, cingular could possibly be the worst cell phone company after it gobbled ATnT...

Out of the of the, cingular NOW is the worst....

How , if your a business person, can you have a cingular phone, and expect to get those all important business calls?

    Wirelessly posted (Nokia 6620: SonyEricssonS710a/R1A SEMC-Browser/4.0.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

I too have experienced all of the above mentioned issues too. This past weekend i have been getting at least two dropped calls which them immediately revert to a busy signal. My fiancee which is up in oregon has been having even worse issues with her Cingular service than i have ever experienced. For some strange reason i do not expect these problems to go away any time soon.

We have been experiencing problems with with the "number not in service" recording although in a very particular situation:

When an Atlanta Orange customer on the Cingular Orange network roaming in Louisiana or Mississippi and calling a Cingular Orange customer in Atlanta. This has been going on since February. We have to sometimes dial two or three times to get through.
