The V66 is very flaky. It's almost 4 years old and had the crap beat out of it. It's not very reliable (my particular unit, not necessarily all V66s).

Hello,
First, thanks for all of the great info here.
The phone is an unlocked AT&T Nokia 6620. I did see the post for the strange firmware. I am using bluetooth to tether, it is paired (ie, sync from address book, etc) with my G4 powerbook.
I have read through the whole thread, and pull the scripts from http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ for both 3G and GPRS, and tried them all.
I have T-zones and the $20 internet plan, verified at the T-mo store last night.
Using internet2.voicestream.com and several of the scripts, I always get the "Could not Negotiate a connections with the remote PPP server. Please verify your seeings and try again" line.
Does anyone have any idea? I'm travelling next week for the holidays, and had hoped to use this setup while on the road.
Thank you.
hmm, the att firmware is odd on those mofos... personally, i think you should send it off and get it reflashed for 30ish bucks. are you able to use the web on the phone? i dont have my symbian phone handy, so i'll have to get it and look at it where to put in the correct setting![]()
Yes, the web works on the phone. I just turned on the internet option last week, but web (t-zones) was functional for almost a year prior to that, and still works now.
I dont mind shipping it away to have it flashed, but have no idea where to send it. Do you have someone to recommend?
www.iunlock.com
get them to unbrand it as well
hold off on doin so until i check the settings, theres a place in the 6620 where u need to put a weird setting.
nvm, sendd it off for debranding![]()
I put in the settings on my K750i, and connected. However, when trying to access a website like google.com, I just get an XML page. Could this be due to the probability that my t-mobileweb hasn't been activated yet (I just signed up today)?
If I try to connect from my phone, it says the following
I am suposedly on the $5.99 T-Mobileweb plan.Special Offer
Please dial 611 from your T-Mobile phone to add this service.

Thanks to the originator of this thread. Worked great. I am on the $5.99 plan. A couple of observations/questions:
When I first got connected the bottom right taskbar 'connect' icon said I was surfing @ about 113 kbps. I was excited since this is double that of dialup. However, when I did an internet speed test I was rated @ 44kbps. Not sure about the discrepancy.
How secure is this connection? would data transfer via BT (laptop to phone) be vulnerable to being intercepted i.e. a credit card #? How about phone to tmobile?
The one that says you are connected at 113kbps is the connection of bluetooth to your pc. If you are using a cable then the same thing. But, the 44kbps is the real connection. Just like dial up how they say 56K. 56K, is the max the modem can handle. So, you got 44k out of that 56K modem.Originally Posted by coolio69

all you samsung people: i'm working on figuring out a way to make it work... if anyones got a samsung phone w/ bt to send to me to test i'd be able to make it work faster
there are 3 necessary downloads
1) Generic Modem Scripts from Ross Barkman's excellent resource at: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
2) to get google access and gmail access the pakage to change MTU at http://mcleay.dyndns.org/osx (from http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...02071201484272)
3) to stop "choking" while surfing Unlockupd works around a bug in lookupd, a system service which is required for proper operation of Mac OS X. If lookupd fails, the system quickly becomes unusable. Unlockupd periodically checks lookupd's status and forces it to restart should it fail.
