Can I cancel without paying charges in this case?

I will be going abroad for several years and may be forced to cut my contract with Cingular soon. I am currently under a 2-year contract with Cingular which ends in May 2004. If I leave the country in April next year (when I will have been only half-way through my contract), how much (in %) in termination charges do I pay ? What other things should I expect? This turn of events in my work is totally unexpected and beyond my control so is there a chance that Cingular will waive the termination charges?

You'll probably be charged a prorated fee of 50% what it was supposed to be.

A Couple of things you could try:
-Does Cingular release you from a contract if you move out of their coverage area? (idk but I've heard some carriers do)

-You could switch to a $7/mo Security plan which is probably cheaper then the termination fee.

-Depending on your situation with your company, you could see if they would pay the fee since it is their fault you have to cancel

-You could try and find someone who you could give your phone to and get them to take over the contract for you.

My advice is to be nice and keep calling CS until you get someone who will release you from your contract with no termination fee. You will be amazed at the wide variety of answers you will get if you call repeatedly with the same concern.

Cingular does NOT prorate termination fees.

However, if you're moving to a location that the do not have service in, they will let you out with no termination fee. You may have to provide your new address, which they will send your final bill to, as "proof" that you are actually moving, though.

at the same time if you call alot the account gets memo'd eachtime you call, and if you get the wrong rep, well, lets just say that not everybody is patient...
