Verizon cripples the e815, need a good LG phone...

verizon has yet again managed to cripple another phone.

the first one was the motorola v710. They did it with bluetooth by disabling the feature to make money.

now, with the e815 they have done it again, by crippling this good phone by making it run on EVDO, an unstable network still in its infancy.

basically, there is this "hack" (if you want to call force mode your phone a hack) but anyway there is this hack that basically force modes the e815 to use the 1X signal.

this leads to more battery life in 1X, as EVDO is a battery drainer.

Anyways, after I forced mode my 815 to 1X, I cant send myself pictures and such. This wouldn't be an issue if bluetooth worked as it should, but thats how it is.

now, since the phone is on a crippled network, and it wont work on the other network, I am going to take it back, and wanted a good recommendation on a good LG phone.

I want good RF, a good speaker phone, good battery life, and good picture phone.

Whats a good phone for this, thats not to bulky and works good. Thanks.

Sorry to tell you, but all Verizon Phones are crippled. The same thing happened to the new LG VX8100..

I personally have no problem with the EVDO network except the drainage of battery.

Woohoo, looks like we got rid of him. Anyway, it is only constantly swapping between EVDO and 1x that kills the battery.
If you really expect an interesting signature, look elsewhere ...
    - AT&T *really* amazed me, but their spotty 3G network lost me.

EV-DO is not a "crippled network". In fact my brother gets an amazing 7 days of standby with about 2 hours of talk time on his E815. We're in a strong EV-DO are and have no problems whatsoever. I really don't know where this "crippled network" crap is coming from. The phone itself may have some crippled features, but overall the phone performs very well. It can perform more functions and better than ANY other Verizon flip phone. If you actually think the crippling is limited to Motorola, buy an LG VX-8100 and realize how much customization you lose. I think these threads are hilarious, and I'm actually rather sick of people bashing the E815 and making claims that are totally bogus or one sided. If the whole phone crippling thing bothers you SO much that you're willing to sacrifice coverage in some cases, then fine, go to Cingular and stop complaining.

On a side note, I think people had high hopes that the crippling was a Motorola issue so the 8100 would be different, but it's not. It's a Verizon issue and I think was a big letdown for those anxiously awaiting the 8100. The 8100 is a great phone with many positives (good size, sturdy build, ease of text messaging). I'm happy for those it has well accomodated and hope they work out the bugs. I would like to see both the E815 and 8100 perform well as strong competition leads to better products.

But if you're in a strong EVDO area, then it shouldn't be too bad. Being on EVDO does not drain the battery nearly as much as searching for an EVDO connection. That's why people in weak EVDO signal areas tend to shut it off because connecting/disconnecting wastes a lot of energy. Basically, it's just like how if a phone has no signal, then it spends time searching for one, which also drains the battery.

hes made about 2 or 3 threads about there being no "missed call" menu on the e815 (even after many people explained to him that if there is no check next to a received call, it means that the call was missed). Also, repeatedly complaining about this in other threads. Complaining about evdo. Complaining about CS. Complaining about people talking about how much he complains. Complaining about e815 UI in general. Complaining about everything.

    have fun,

ps. i know there are other "concerns" that hes complained about that i did not remember/post.
