TUTORIAL: tether laptop/desktop pc's with your cell phone via BT

if we have one for macs, shouldn't we have one for pc laptop users? (themacace, dont even start. LOL)

    anyway you will need

    pc laptop/desktop (well duh!)
a bluetooth adapter (if your laptop/desktop already is already BT capable, then you won't need this)
at LEAST a 5.99 data plan or more
    bluetooth enabled cell phone

first hook up BT adapter to your computer. if your running windows XP SP2 then it should install the drivers automatically, if you dont have SP2 or running a different windows then use the cd that your BT adapter came with. after that pair your laptop and cell phone together (of course make sure your BT is on your cell) follow the instructions on the computer to pair em together. when you do pair, it should also set up the BT modem.

next set up a new connection. to do that, go to control panel, network settings, and network connections, and creat a new connection. when you click next the first time choose the first option, click next, set up my connection manually, then dial up modem, pick the modem (which should be the BT modem), an ISP name (any should be fine), and the phone number which is *99#, leave name and password blank and set this connection as default

when your done with all of that(sounds hard huh) then go back to control panel, and go to phone and modems, then the tab modems, highlight your BT modem and then properties. go to advance and...

..if you have the 5.99 plan (thanks to krazykritter, for some reason, i couldn't find this in the forums) type this in the box

    at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

    19.99 plan

    at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet2.voicestream.com"

    19.99 plan with VPN

    at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com"

on your phone, make sure you have the settings correct. if you don't have them, we have a sticky to send them to your phone ASAP.

    for Internet explorer:

to set the IP and proxy, go to internet options from control panel, connections, (then your network that you use for tmobile) and settings. then where it says proxy service, click the box and type in this address and port

    216.155.165.50
    8080

    firefox users

tools, options, connection settings, manual proxy configuration, then same.

**for opera, and other browser users, please post on how to change the address and port #, thanks)

click your new connection icon and there ya go, you can now browse the internet on your desktop/laptop pc

phew, that was a lot, i probably missed a thing or two (my first time writing a tutorial) hope it works, if you have any problems please post em here, or IM me, thanks

lol, glad you got it workin' bro... sorry i wasn't much help lmao...

i'm so glad that string is posted, so that i can actually find it easy enough instead of searching everytime i setup a new connection, lol.

*EDIT* oh, and wanted to add, so people know, that the proxy isn't neccessary on the 19.99 plan (For the browsers) but only on the 5.99 plan.

LMAO I'll know in about 4 hours Macace... i'm stuck at work, while the UPS man is dropping my phone off.

considering asking my boss to leave early, but i doubt he'll go for it!

They did fine on my 6630 though, so i'm not to worried about it... and i really could care less if there are the asian letters on the keys, i have 'em all memorized anyway.

@xtreme: the proxy settings in opera aren't that hard... i don't remember off the top of my head, but it's pretty straightforward under 'tools' i believe.

Hey I just tried these settings and I'm unable to connect to anything. The computer dials out and connects just fine but no webpage loads in IE, even with the proxy settings and the advanced modem commands. I'm on the 5.99 plan.

Yes, I'm subscribed to the 5.99 plan. I'll try w/ Firefox right now. I've tried visiting howardforums.com and yahoo.com.

Nope..Firefox doesn't work as well. Checking the status on the connection, I notice I'm sending way more than I'm receiving.

I'm amazed not to see this but if your computer has a setting for the modem make certain you uncheck the part about it waiting for a dial tone.
Please call 1-800-937-8997 on a different phone so we can help you...

Need to know how to interface your phone to your device.

Need help setting up your email client on the phone click on this for setting it up.

What is your proxy setting then go to what to input for the settings
