Thumbs up GPS on lg vx8100 : working : may work with other phones

You can get your EXACT gps location with your 8100. a little less exact in dense urban areas

    how?

    menu -> 000000 -> field tests -> gpsOne
(look at menu option names not numbers for the info)

    turn gpsOne test screen on

test num is what you dial with your phone to get the info after 30 sec to a min
default 922, change if you get 911 instead, 922 should give you a message, forget the message, keep it connected until the lat long data appears

last location is what is stored after you dial 922

start application , cant get this to work

NV - change to these settings
net access set to allow w dmod
    all privacys set to none
    gpsOne Lock set to both

    go back to gpsOne menu

GetPos API - change these settings
oper mode set to speed opt.
    privacy - none
    navData DL - single
    sess type - ind. Track
    test mode - single measure

with these settings, i got the most acurate gps location with consistant values after trying again (other values dont give you consistant values of lat long)
use this to enter the Decimal values and get your map. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp

    exit the menu

dial 922 or what ever you changed the test num to, got to start with 9

    wait until the data appears.

    goodluck, and enjoy.

Does anyone know why it's a 'hidden feature'?

^- It's just a test feature, it's not susposed to be used directly. It's to be used with Verizon's LBS when they're rolled out later this year.
If you really expect an interesting signature, look elsewhere ...
    - AT&T *really* amazed me, but their spotty 3G network lost me.

Beware I did this on my 8000 and Verizon charged me for each time I did it. A few bucks each.

Has anyone gotten this to work on the vx-4400? I couldn't get it to work. My test number said 923. I wasn't sure how to dial it either....do you just enter 923 or is it 922 and hit send?

Actually, only one setting changed for me. The GPS is off by 50 miles. Am I the only one? I'll try it later outdoors.

    Change the number to 922.
When you are in the screen where it shows you the number, change it. You CANNOT use 923, only 922.

This happens in certain places. VZW does that in some places for dummies who try to dial 911 and acidently dial 922, so they just forward it.

BTW, there is already a thread with dozens of pages about this (only it was for a different LG phone either the 6000 or 7000.) It has all the exact same steps, etc.

What did they charge you for? I've never heard of this.

Ok, went outside and the gps got me smack right where I'm at using the mapquest. This thing is good. Seems like this phone is the best investment yet.
