I'm increasingly convinced that this feature works for hardly anybody. In the Washington, D.C. area, 922 dials into the emergency call center because it's dumbed down for people who are trying to dial 911. I have read from another post in this thread that no number but 922 works, thus in the metropolitan areas where 922 = 911, we're screwed, right?
It looks like it. I just tried it, and got 911.
I changed the number to 976 and it just get call failed almost as soon as i hit send. so, it seems like we're screwed. FYI i was in herndon, va I got fairfax county 911.
I also do not believe this works for nearly everyone. I have tried it in several different counties in NJ and all times it gets me to 911. I think this hack should be removed from the board as about 1 percent of the time it will work in certain areas. A post should be put when it works all the time for everyone.

I agree with this, adding that it's a burden upon our public safety first-responder infrastructure for the thousands of false alarms associated with playing around with our phones.

Yeah Im in NJ too and it hasnt worked for me. I didnt get the 911 operator but a call couldnt be completed
For those who are getting this to work ( I got lucky and ended up reaching some bank's service number) you can check the data for the last locations that you have checked, if you wanted to mark several locations in a row.
This is on my VX8100
In the Field Test menu, go to option 0, which is "gps Cont Call"
Press 3 to view the last location points that you have taken, the oldest points are listed first. Max Call Count allows you to specify the maximum amount of data points you can record. It defaults to 50.
The first option "Cont Call" will automatically call the number, get the GPS data, and hang up, call again, until it records the amount of data points you specified.
While looking at at the data points taken, you can get a whole other list of info by pressing down on the keypad. There is data on your speed and heading (mine says unavailable right now) as well as data from the cell towers used to triagulate your position and the GPS satellites used as well.
I don't want to try this if I have to dial 922 or any similar# for fear of calling 911, and I don't recommend anyone else do it either unless you have a good reason to.
halcyonlad - If you can still edit your original post than I'd suggest you add this info there.
Also, it seems that 922 calls are usually just rerouted to some other #, if not to 911, so it could go to 411 or something that you'd have to pay for like it did for that one guy.
I know this is old.......... but so am I.
I buy VX8100 on Ebay as I destroy one a year or so.
Don't need all the bells and whistles you young guys like.
Basically my music is anywhere I don't have to listen to your's.
I love silence and the normal sounds of the woods.
I'm an engineer by trade and have installed cell towers all over
the world.
The VX8100 does everything I want except send the gps by SmS.
Anyone know how to do that?
Verizon service is getting so damned bad here I'm thinking of bailing out.
Over 65% of the time there is no service.
I live in the woods, Lots of music no amplifiers or big speakers.
I have a high end repeater to get the signals needed here but that isn't the problem with
the service. It's just getting worse and worse here and all up and down the highways.
Even back in the city it has started to really suck.
Tried another LG just to see.
Signal is average of something between -085Dbm to -96Dbm but no service.
This GPS setup works. Thanks,
WortHawg.
Nothing like setting a Titanium bath tub crusing along at 400Kts with a gatlin at your finger tips.
