Call me crazy; but I love my Nokia 6620 & will be upgrading to the Nokia N70. However, this device looks sweet. My favorite is still the 7100x (O2 in Europe) - would love to have one unlocked, then load Rogers' software.
My main issue is with the rise & quality of camera phones (SE k750) I would love to see a purely consumer RIM phone; even one that wont support push email for corporate clients or one that would. Heck BES Admins could remove the Camera Service Book and lock down the device to protect sensitive data, and if an insider tried to come in house with a non corporate released said (hypothetical) Camera BB then the new presence app could identify it. Or better yet, I'm very surprised that WiFi hasnt been incorporated into this device just for WLAN internet browsing? RIM already has a strickly WiFI device with PBX support so security isnt an issue with WiFi. Heck if Flipside can post pictures & actually owns one, then he most likely is under NDS (Non Disclosure aggreement), or works for network support engineer for Cingular.
What would be sweet if the good boys at RIM can make a pure "KING-PIN" Pimp BlackBerry made outta Carbon-Fiber, alloy like casing that resembles Carbon Fiber. In a purely limited edition fashion. Execs like traditional color combinations as long as they still look professional (Black, Silver, Dark Mohaganny/Chestnut Brown).
Flipside; May I ask how do you like the keyboard on this one? Did you find your typing speed go down initially &/ never get up to speed like it was before using this device?
Speakerphone ->> important question: Is it a proximity speakerphone? Example; you have a convo on the speaker and then pick up the device in a rush and hold it to your ear does it sense and auto switch to the earpiece? Like wise for speaking??
Holster >> you mentioned that you dropped it. Is this because you dont have a holster and one doesnt yet exist for it? Will it fit correctly in existing holsters?
Hey flip_side, how does the SIM and battery go in? Can you take a shot (decent res please :P) of the device with the back cover off? Also, are they using a different battery, or is it the same as the 7290 or 7100 series? Thanks!! (btw, cool post!)
Does anyone know if the 8700 screen/cover is the same as the 7250/90 or if it is the same crappy plastic screen/cover on the 7100t series. Five minutes after you start using the 7100, the screen/cover is nothing but scratches that cannot be removed. It would be great if the 8700 screen/cover is like the 7200 series that is scratch resistant and is readable in bight sunlight. Forget the 7100 in anything other than normal room light.
That is one ugly son of a pup, damn. It also looks very cheap and that it would not stand one small drop. Oh well I am glad I did not get my hopes up, I will stick with my trusty 7250, some times new and improved ain't so.
Will all due respect, how can you tell it looks cheap from a photo ??
I was at a T-Mo store in the Detroit area today and the girl behind the counter indicated that at the begining of Nov they will be getting a new BB, new Treo and new PPC device, as well as offering some new data plan options. She described the unit being discussed in this post, almost to a tee and indicated the Treo would not be the 650, but a 710 model.
For what it's worth, she did not seem like the usual T-Mo flunky.
It looks flimsy like the 7100 series to me in my opinion, I may be wrong and I do not mean to deter from anyone elses's views or opinions on it. Based on my experience the 7200 and the 7500 series are very solid devices unlike their counterparts in the 7100 series. And from the looks of the pictures posted it looks to me that it resembles the 7100 series so the assumption is that it is not as solid as the 7250. I think sometimes people get caught up in the hoopla of something new this way coming and tend to not see the forrest for the tree in front of them.

Apparently RIM is working on getting approval on removable memory without losing their security standings with privacy and security regulators. they may find a work around (such as encrypted removable memory), if they do then we will see a bb with memory cards!

I've never understood the call for removable memory on the Blackberry. The device doesn't have a camera nor does it play MP3's. And it has rudimentary document handling at best.
If you backup the device on a regular basis, the onboard memory should be more than sufficient.

I see it being useful for maps, zagat guides and off line content for reading on the bus/subway.
