Nokia 6682 OUT OF STOCK EVERYWHERE (post all related discussion here)

So the Nokia 6682 isn't in Cingular stores, letstalk.com, Amazon.com, or at the Cingular website. Does anyone know where it IS at? I would like to buy one very badly but every place I look it's backordered. I called a my Cingular store today and they said that they never got their 6682's. They were called back before they got them due to software problems. Why doesn't Cingular or Nokia make an announement about this and just do a recall? If someone knows where to buy this jewel of a phone right now please let me know. Thanks!

It is probably at regional distro waiting for bug fixes... this handset has been plagued with various errors.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you now... maybe you should try a UMTS phone

The only bug I've seen is the memory issue. Otherwise, I think the problem is either more severe or contractual.

When you think about it... If Cingular continues to sell the 6682 in its current state, it could be costly in the long term. There would be plenty of 6682 owners who will return or exchange it due to the bugs with the early firmware (call log disappearing after reboot, contact list copy from SIM, etc). Better to pull the plug on its initial bug ridden release, fix the firmware, and then release it with new firmware. That was something that Cingular should had done before releasing the phone.

Cingular needs a better QA department, rather than depend on the thousands or so 6682 early adopters to be Beta testers.

I would blame Nokia on it even though both companies test the phone. Nokia is responsible for testing and making sure the phone is stable and up to par. Cingular just sells the phone but responsibility shouldn't be as great on their part.

Cingular changes the firmware adding in all their crap I don't want to see causing bugs in the process.

Mobile provider customizations are all visual. I'm sure somewhere along the line it could cause issues but the problems you're seeing are technical and it is a Nokia product, not a Cingular product.

Apparently, unbranded Nokia's usually don't have any issues. It's the Cingular branded Nokia's that have issues (ie. 6230b, 6682). I don't know if cosmetic changes cause this, but something was tweeked in the firmware by Cingular to cause the 6682 to have these issues.

When Cingular gives a contract to Nokia or any other manufacturer, they let the manufacturer know what they want in the phone. It's the manufacturer's responsibility to make sure that they delivered to Cingular what they asked for. Providing a good phone that meets the carrier's requirements. It's true that carriers sometime make it harder for the manufacturers to deliver bug-free phones by not providing them clear requirements or changing the requirements at the last minute. Every US carriers ask some kind of customization. It's nothing new in the phone industry. I see a lot of people blaming here Cingular whenever there is an issue with a phone. It's mostly the manufacturer's fault that they did not provide a good phone. In this case, Nokia should have taken care of all these issues before introducing the phone.

I can't imagine that they're exclusively visual, seeing as how i can think of two instances off the top of my head where that isn't the case: The 6620 where the branded version was unable to play mp3 ringtones, and if i'm not mistaken, that whole fiasco with the v710 and bluetooth had a lot to do with what Verizon wanted removed from the phone, not Motorola. In this case, you're right that it's a cingular product, but when you have cingular saying we won't release so-and-so phone until you add/remove this or that to it, it becomes an issue with them as well.

... and how do you know this for a fact that they ran out? It could be one of many reasons. A lot of Cingular stores in my region still have it in stock... that shouldn't mean that Cingular should yank the product off the site.

Your reasoning sounds logical but without real proof its hard to say what is what...so in fact you are arguing another aspect that is hearsay.
