Was the p910a announced at the same time? I'm guessing that since UMTS ain't happening in the US for awhile, they skipped us for now. EDGE/900 is interesting though. Why EDGE/900 and UMTS?
Nice looking phone. Still can look like a phone when you want it to. You can all go bezerk about the pad on the phone, but the fact of the matter is that is what the market is demanding (Treo, HP's new PPC phones, etc.), especially in the US.
Fingers crossed on an 850 version. And WiFi, cool.

To ensure a large proportion of applications are available on the new Symbian and UIQ software platform when the P990 goes on sale, Sony Ericsson has decided to announce the smartphone well in advance of availability so that developers have time to create and certify as many applications as possible.
great... which means u got lots and lots of time to save up...
and no 850 for those in the americas = not really caring about the high-end market here still... ah well, what can we do?
Sony Ericsson announced their latest smartphone operating on Symbian OS - the P990. It features 2.8 inch touch QVGA display and 2-megapixel camera. Operating on GSM and UMTS networks, it features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for local connectivity...
Flip is removeable, just thumboard is built into base. And im using a P910i on T-Mo in the US, so without the 850 you should be able to get away with it. Although many are going to wait for that 850 version.
