So I've had the A950 since Sunday, and the call quality just plain sucks. I'm in a good coverage area (had a vx6000 before and it had perfect call quality, Austin EVDO). Is it the EV that messing things up? How do I turn it off?
The phone is so bad its almost unusable. The other person's voice makes audible clicking On and Off like they are on a walkie talkie and I miss most of what they are saying. It almost feels like I'm on a walkie talkie as well, like the phone isn't full duplex... REALLY BAD.
I *HOPE* its just a bad phone I got, because otherwise I like the phone. But if I exchange it for another 950 and its the same I think I'm going to jump ship and go back to LG (8100).
When I take the phone back in, do i need to bring the box and charger and all that? or just the headset? Also, if I request just another A950, and its the same, can I return it again and exchange for an 8100?
Thanks.

Verizon tells you they will only allow 1 phone exchage during the 15 days. However, you always have the option of just cancelling the contract and going back to what you had before. Having said that, I got 3 exchanges in my 15 day period. I initially had a a950 which I liked except for the sound quality of the external speaker and the problem with getting mp3 files into ringtones. I traded it for a vx-8100 but was getting many dropped calls, though I like the sound quality. I returned it the next day because of the dropped calls, and they gave me another a-950 which I will live with because it is just a better phone - better RF, better sound quality on calls, and a better camera, not to mention 10 video capability, better voice command system. It's just too bad the external speakers don't sound as good as the vx-8100. I guess I can listen to mp3's with headphones if that bothers me too much with the a950.
I just exchanged my a950 for a new one because I was experiencing the same problems.. Weird noises in the background, and the call quality sounded like a two-way radio. The person's voice would cut in and out as well. I have a new one, but I fear the problem might be universal. I have until tomorrow to decide to go to the motorola e815 or the lg 8100. anybody else in the same situation? suggestions?![]()

crap... if they all are like this that really sucks. are you in an EVDO area? I wonder if that has anything to do with it.Originally Posted by roughing14

yes I am, but it happens no matter where I am... Don't know if you can turn it off on the phone, or if it matters. I might be taking this bad boy back, not sure yet.Originally Posted by phantomog
try a Motorola E815. It's crisp and clear on every call. There's no background noise or interference. I think it's a matter of personal preference/network conditions. Some feel the E815 has superior sound quality and some say the A950 does. The 8100 has a volume fluctuation bug, so that could be worse. Good luck.
They're not all like that. And I drove from St. Louis to Indianapolis (about 4 hrs) with my 950, made and received several calls along the way and had zero issues. I've never heard any of the effects you're describing..Originally Posted by phantomog
You either got a bad phone (most likely), or have wierd reception in that area that doesn't go well with that phone..
The call quality on mine is flawless.
My phone quality with the a950 is absolutely the best I have ever had on a cell phone.
I have never heard any background noise or interference. Moreover, when I used to get an echo with my vx-4400 when talking to certain kinds of cell phones, I haven't had the same problem with the a950 talking to the same phones.
I just got a 950 two days ago. I have had very clear calls and today I had two calls that are similar to what you are talking about. It sounded like the sentences were getting cut off. And choppy when they started talking as well. my "What did you say" meter was ticking during one call in particular. My fiance is getting an e815, so I can compare call quality before the 15 day window is over.
I just think I would be happier with a phone I can enable OBEX on and get clearer calls on. But we'll see.
