Yup. iDEN is going away in 2008. Sprint Nextel will be dispatching an army of men dressed as the former Sprint pitchman to snatch the iDEN handsets out of Nextel customers' hands.

Nextel National Power 1000
After 2010, nextel will be completely absorbed by the eventually all-CDMA sprint
so no more walkie talkie services? well i might as well switch to cingular or tmobile cuz i dont want that ready link stuff...and sprint doesnt have any phones that are really special to me
Iden will die a horrible death sooner or later, no doubt. This is going to be a pretty good way down the road and no need to do anything for now. By then who knows what service will be offered.
Thank you Greg. In case no one has noticed, technology is rapidly evolving. I'd imagine if video can be streamed wirelessly with CDMA, eventually a solution that is as good as or better than iDEN's PTT implementation will be deployed.

I think I saw one a couple of these guys around here recently...one kept walking around and saying "Can you hear me now?" The other was this goofy looking guy in a black trenchcoat (I say goofy cause it was 80 degrees and sunny) with him just shaking his head...Annoying little bastards!! LOL

I google searched that question and never really found anything solid, just on several websites it has people talking about it, so that i why i asked. for the push to talk market i do think Cingular will be the next to take it. We are just as fast as nextel and can do 30 things more during a call then anyone else. example, conference calls with PTT, the abibilty to switch from a PTT conversation to a regular conversation, etc, etc. But that wasn't my reason of my post. Thanks for the input!
I guess no one used the search option.Don't forget, about Nextel's Qchat that only Nextel has the exclusive rights too.
