I'm hungry and i'm poor, would you give me $$$?

I remember seeing this on an expose... maybe maury or something....

Has anyone considered panhandling on their spare time? You know, especially if you live near a casino?

How much easier can it be?

    1. Go to the city and get a solicitors permit (that way a cop can't arrest you).
    2. Go to the local thrift store and buy some hand me downs for pennies on the dollar. (probably a good rain coat just in case someone throws liquid on you)
    3. Scrounge through the trash for a box to collect the money (a cup? come on, we have to think big)
    4. Think of a theme (maybe a cardboard sign?, maybe pretend to be insane... by playing a fake guitar and singing?)

    5. And for anyone who thinks i'm mocking the homeless (i'm not really, donate ALL proceeds to charity)....

I've seen firemen do it. Fill the boot! Fill the boot! Why can't you?

ESPECIALLY near a casino, but not too close.... you don't want security to whisk you away in a small little room and well.... you know...

I saw some teenagers with a sign in Montreal that said:

there was a "shakey lady" here in toronto that did that, she was living in a condo and stuff, some dude bought her a coat from the bay because he thought she was cold and she turned around and threw it in the garbage.....the news exposed her she tried it in a new town and then a casino but she got caught again.

There's a guy outside a local movie theater who does that, he keeps the money though. He doesn't even have a job, he just collects money to support his kid and he even has an apartment.

I love the difference in definition of "solicitor" in the US vs Australia. Here we call lawyers "solicitors".

Or maybe I'm just easily amused

In Canada too, but we also call the act of communication for the purpose of prostitution solicitation.

Of course, given what lawyers and prostitutes both do to you, it is absolutely accurate to call what they both do soliciting.

I had watched a special report on the news years ago about some panhandlers in New York. They profiled people who lived in a home where an income was being earned or lived in a home supported by the state (welfare). So in addition to whatever income they were already recieving, some of these folks also 'worked' as panhandlers. Some were making 600, 700 hundred in a single day...tax free, off the books. Craaaazzzzyyyy!

The funniest pan handler I encountered was one day while driving in Flatbush, Brooklyn, NYC. I was stopped at a light and a guy walks in front of the car. He starts this little 'presentation' using a crude flip-chart made from cardboard. Basically it went like...Hey, can you help me?......I've got a flat......I'm flat broke!

I couldn't help but laugh and gave him 5 bux. Normally I only buy panhandlers food but I was in traffic and his little skit was good.

correctomundo! Where I live in CA, someone can apply for a six month solicitor's permit. Granted, the total fees to get the permit range in the $60 range PLUS a person has to file for a business tax license.

Their defintion states that solicit or solicitation means to "request" diretly or indirectly money or property (hmm.... i don't need yo stinkin $$$, just give me your land!.... riiiight).... i think they mean personal property..... also i may do so on the street, in any office or public building OR house to house..... hmm... see... its perfectly legal to seek revenge on those ninjas by collecting money to learn karate, kung-fu or tae bo.

    ........ yea..........
the expectation to get SOMETHING for NOTHING is why i would never give to panhandlers when im going downtown~
i mean look at all the kids out there making minimum wage

if i make 8$ an hour.. and i give a begger a buck~ it only took him 5 seconds to stick out his hand and ask me for that buck.. however, it took me 7.5 minutes to earn it.. ppl need to go get jobs.. even at a place like mcdonalds..
