    HELP ! : Nokia 8800 hard reset

    Hi folks,

I'm travelling outside the country (I'm in the UK now) and my Nokia 8800 has stopped responding to SIM cards.

It will not select any network with anyones SIM card, although my SIM works in other phones.

It did initially work, but then stopped. I suspect I need to hard reset it but cannot find any info on the web on how to do this.

I tried "restore factory settings" which did restore them, but didn't do a hard reset as it's left all my original MMS settings etc intact.

I'd like to hard reset it to pristine config and start again.

Can anyone help me out with this truly golden nugget of information ?

I did a quick search through the 8800/8801 service manual and did not find any reference to a reset capability. I suspect you would need to reflash the firmware to do what you want.

    Thanks for that !
I looked on the Nokia website here in the UK and found a local service shop. I'll meander over today and see if they are open. Luckily, being a fairly seasoned traveller I brought a backup phone with me too, so I'm not 'off-the-air' yet.

If I find out anything interesting from the Nokia folks I'll post it and pass it on.
