This is normal. I only imagine it will get better with usage.
I like the sliding mechanism of the D500 over the D600.

As cellaradar sais, the D600 has a rough slide. I wonder if anyone will better the D500 on that?

The first thing I notice was how hard it was to slide it. Esp if you have dry skin, but once you get it moving it will slide very fast.

My 1st D600 slider was very smooth and quick compared to the D500. But it had a defect, so I replaced it. Now my 2nd one doesn't slide as smooth, it has a notchy feel. But I can live it with it, since my D500 did the same compared to my friend's D500.

    Hey Pocky,
I've got gripes going to the D600 from D500, see my post, what do you see?
I get your point with the difficult slide... no rubber grip below the LCD!

The D600's slide isn't that hard as it is easy as my D415. If you want to talk about a hard slider, try sliding up or closing the E630/E635. You have to push it all the way up and all the way down as it doesn't have the slide assist that the D600 and D415 has.

I don't even put my thumb under the LCD. I usually hold the phone by laying it on my four fingers and put my thumb on the side just above the side camera button and slide the phone open or close. Don't have any problems opening or closing the D600.

Also in regards to your gripes, I haven't had any problems that you have with it.

Try that after eating a bag of chips. Or when you have gloves on.
The D600 should of really had a little rubber tab below the LCD screen.

I have tried with both gloves on (mine are leather nomex) and after eating some greasy burgers and fries. Still able to open my D600 with ease.

You could always buy one of those Universal eGrips strips for PDA's/Cell phones and iPods. Cut a piece to size and apply it below the LCD and where ever you need it to get a grip.

I know on the E635, there is a raised metal piece to put your thumb on to help open the phone. On the D415 there are two ridges below the LCD to do the same.
