You may still not be able to activate the V3c online due to it being a V Cast phone. Most of the time the online esn changer does not work for V Cast phones.
I've found that once a phone has been activated on your account once, you can switch back and forth online without any problems. I did this last week when I bought 2 new 9800s retail - My wife had a vx6000, and I tried to activate her 9800 online. It wouldn't let me so I called CS and they waived the fee and activated. A few days later I tried to activate my 9800 to replace my E815 and it didn't work online, so I called CS again and they waived the fee. However, after both 9800s were active I wanted to go back to my E815 for a few days while waiting for a bluetooth headset (the 9800 can't voice-dial on a corded headset), and I was able to switch back to the E815 with no problems. Then when my BT headset arrived, I reactivated the 9800 (and sold the E815), again with no problems.
We do this all the time at my store. Cust comes in and activates 3rd line and wants to put the new phone on the primary line. The only time you shouldn't be doing this is if a cust uses their ne2 credit on a phone and wants to put it on another line other than the primary. Not only that but we usually do it for free if the cust is high value or a good sale. Just make sure you request it with the salesperson before.
You could always use the dummy ESN number which is 13800111111. This dummy esn is usually used by VZW CSR's when someone wants a line to stay active without a phone.
OK, I bought the RAZR, and on it is my new 3rd line. I checked out the online ESN changer, and am currently at "My Account> Activate Phone". Below, it says "Enter your Information" and below that are contained my 3 mobile phone numbers. Given VZW Employee's quote above, I guess my question now is, what happens if I reassign my mobile number to a phone that already has a number of mine on it? Will the number that is on it already dissappear into some black hole? Or will it not, and all I have to do is re-select it from my "3 mobile phone numbers" list, and keep doing it until all numbers have the ESNs I want? Thanks!
if you already have a phone that was on one of the lines. then do a esn change on that line. then do esn of phone you want on that line. like if you have another phone for line 1,change it first.have all phones off, then do esn to phone you want to change too. then after it goes thru, turn phone on and do *228 option 1 or 2, if it is a phone you had on line,do option 2. then when done you can put other phone on line you want it on. so probably do line one first. then line 2 next. then do line 3.but when you go to put razr on line one,you may have to call the 800 number it shows if it doesnt work on line. also your other phone you said you had on a line, has to be e911 compliant. if you got it since 2003 it should be. if it isnt you wont be able to put it back on line. may have to do dummy esn number then.
VZW: +10 yr customer. Excellent service, but not worth the ~40% premium on voice and data plans!

That is exactly how you do it, either with a "dummy ESN" or spare, unused handset as a "place setting." The reason being that you cannot activate a handset on another line, if its ESN is arleady active.
Also note: The online ESN changes often craps out, in that it gives you an "error" saying that you must call in to get that number activated. I think that's due to the server being overloaded. I usually get that error, but am able to actually perform the ESN switch after 2 or 3 tries.
Lastly, if you do decide to go with an indirect agent, make sure that they don't require a "side contract" which would severly limit your exchange priviledges, and tacks on an extra ETF (payable to the dealer) if you decide the cancel that line before 6 mos are up (so the dealer can avoid a VZW commission charge back).
In general, I don't the the additional few bucks you save at an indirect is worth it, when compared to the VZW corp store's relatively liberal exchange policy. And yes, they'll know where you bought your phone, and redirect you to the dealer, should your handset be defective.....
Oh, and one more thing: I bought 2 3815 cVast handsets over *611 and activated both of them over the ESN changer.
i just went through the same process. Best Buy said they couldnt Do ESN changes, so i called CSR when i got home. They said it was 20 a line, i said oh my really? She said they would waive since i just got the 2 lines today. Everything works great. I love my new RAZR for 129.99 and FREE moto bluetooth headset.
I tried to change Motorola V265 to Samsung A670. I tried doing it online. It show i have to call 18009220204.. it should work perfect. Since my phone is non-evdo. . So i took it to the authorized verzion store. he just type it my social security number, cell#, and ESN for the Samsung A670. only take 2 minutes. thats all.. Online ESN will never work. Basically I think verizon trying to charge $20 to switch phone ( non EVDO- or EVDO phone).
I have a couple of 710s and some other beater phones that I trasnfer back and forth as one breaks or I need analog or whatever. I bought the razr at BB (retail price as I'm month to month with 4 lines) and I couldn't activate it online. I called CS and she never asked what kinds of phones, only for the ESN number and since I tried online and it failed she did it for free (her offer, I didn't even have to ask). I have had it fail between 710s before where I tried and tried and had to come back in an hour or so and then it worked so occasioanlly it does fail and they shoudl offer up the free swap since you found their system "broken" (just play dumb - sometimes you get much more than way)
When I am performing the ESN changes online, do all the cellphones need to be off? Or on? Also, after I perform the ESN changes, do I need to do anything to my cellphones (ie: dial *228>1, or *228>2)? Or can I just leave them alone, and the ESNs will work themselves out on their own?
hi zelf24. i am responding to your question. it doesn't matter you can turn on or turn off. I turn on both phones, when i switch ESN.
for example. I switched to Samsung A950 from Motorola V265. I gave them my SSN, cell#, and ESN for the Samsung A950. About 1 minute later, Motorola V265 became unactive. Then I waited about 25-30 minutes ( depend on the computer system), then I called *228 from my Samsung A950. then press 1. thats all.
Is VZW still charging for doing online ESN switches? I just did one recently, and I havent gotten a bill yet. I hope I don't have to pay, because I switch phones often.
Why be negative and have a "Nokia" when you can have the great positivities of a "Yeskia?"
