Unhappy P800 and T-Mobile's GPRS connection setup - HELP PLEASE

    Hello all P8'rs...

I cannot seem to get my P800 dialed into the T-Mobile GPRS and CSD, etc... Networks. I have been trying all the various ones I am finding. There are alot more options in the P800 then the T68i, etc... So it is prob. something stupid.

A some points I click the Sony P800 website link and it seems to start trying to connect, for like 6 secs, then I get Calls Restricted?

Also why we are at it. I noticed a few of you guys also have POP e-mail setup on these as well.

I would like to get everything setup correctly.

If anybody can point me in the right direction, etc. That would be great!

    THANX GUYS!

for wap settings, from another post

    For WAP

    Control Panel-> Connections-> Internet accounts-> New

Account Name: T-Mobile wap (or whatever you want to call it)
    Connection Type: GPRS

    Advanced:

Server > check Username and Password required
    > user name: wap
    > password: (leave blank)
    > address: wap.voicestream.com

Log-In > check Get IP address automatically
    > check Get DNS address automatically

    Proxy: leave blank

Other: > check Enable PPP extensions
    > Authentication: Normal

    QOS: leave whatever's default

Now press Done all the way until you get back to Control Panel.

Then Control Panel-> WAP accounts-> New

Account name: T-Zones (or whatever you want to name it)
    Internet Account: Preffered
    Use Proxy: check
    Address: 216.155.165.050
    Port: 9201
    User name: (blank)
    Password: (blank)

    Then press Done.

Still under WAP accounts, click Preferred >

    Use WAP account: check
Preffered: T-Zones (or whatever you named your wap account).

Now, the weird part is that nowhere in the WAP settings you have to input the T-Mobile wap page as your homepage. What I did is I just bookmarked it on the browser as http://wap.myvoicestream.com. That's if you want to.

Another weird thing, even though we were using the WAP APN, we were still able to go to regular websites.

    MMS Settings

    Control Panel-> Messaging Accounts-> MMS

    Service Center Address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    Wap Account: T-Zones
Automatic: Off (unless you want to automatically download every MMS that is sent to you)

Leave everything default under the Advanced button.

Hope these settings work for you. Post your results please.

for email , use your isp instead of att

    Account name = Your choice
Your name = the name you want to appear when you respond to an email
email address = your worldnet email address (something@something.net)
    connection type = POP3
    internet account = GPRS

    go to inbox tab:
username = the name prior to the @ si=gn in your email address
    password = email password
    incoming server address = postoffice.worldnet.att.net
download = I have this set to no restrictions

    go to outbox tab:
    Outgoing server address = mailhost.worldnet.att.net

I had to fiddle with the Use SMTP Authentication box and the Secure Connection (on the Advanced tab) to get it to work - both are unchecked right now but it may be different for you.

Once these settings are in just go to the messages icon, select the email accoutn and hit the get&send button.

Like I said if you are unsuccessful go back and check those security boxes but start with them unchecked.

If you have the internet2 or internet3 APN setup for using the browser, you need to use the wap.voicestream.com APN for MMS. Set up another data account and use it for MMS. This is the only thing I changed from the settings listed below.

    Service Center Address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    Wap Account: T-Zones
Automatic: Off (unless you want to automatically download every MMS that is sent to you)

Leave everything default under the Advanced button.

p.s. make sure you leave the ".84" as is - do not make it ".084" - this will not work.

Thanks Peter, that was it. It would download to 94% and then give the ole "server error" message! I put my phone number and password and it works like a charm. Now, what the heck is up with my SMS? It won't work and I have input the following messaging center number +2063130004 for Alabama, is there another setting I am missing?

Once again, thanks Peter. I tell you, T-Mobile, Voicestrea, & lastly Powertel have always been very slacking in the knowledge of the customer service reps.. I had wasted about 1/2 hour on MMS setup and 15 minutes with SMS (2 different reps gave me the same number with no 1 behind the +) Another great reason to participate in this site if you are into cell phones.

Thanks for the link Peter, it was great speaking with you on the phone. I will check the GD-87 out, but my cell phone budget is pretty blown-up right now.
