    Strange voicemail problem w/Nokia 6270

Wondering if I could get some help here.
Just purchased Nokia 6270 and using it with T-mobile. Great phone so far. Problem I am having so far is during voicemail retrieval (pressing button "1"), I ALWAYS get a blank sms message during the call. It also says "Note : active incomming call diverts" however I don't think this has much to do with my problem. In looking at the details of the sms message all I know is that they are comming from message center 1 206 313 0012 or sometimes 1 646 622 0020. They are .1 kb in size. Has anyone experienced this and can shed some light? Thanks in advance!!

Quick question (off topic, sorry). I see you live in Roslindale, have you tested EDGE yet on your phone? I live in Canton and I'm thinking of buying this phone. Thanks.

Edge is available here in Mass. Much improved over regular gprs.

Hi. I have a 6270 and haven't had any problems with the MWI indicator. I've accessed VM both by calling "123" and by using 805MESSAGE. I'm wondering, how did you configure your 6270 for T-Mobile? I had the web configuration tool send mine the setups for the "Nokia 6230" since (obviously) the 6270 wasn't a drop-down choice.

I've had the blank SMS message thing as well - very strange. Only had the phone for 24 hours and am still experimenting.

Did the setup via tmobile configurator but have no idea if it's correct (used the 6230 setup as well)

haven't been able to surf the web with opera mini yet - any help here would be appreciated!

    thanks

There's a long long thread (maybe several) here about Opera Mini. To call the experience "inconsistent" would be an understatement -- some people can run it, others can't. Personally, I tried and got the Java error that others have reported. I'm assuming its because I only use the $5.99 t-zones plan, but, frankly, I don't need anything more than light and occasional web access from the phone so Opera is severe overkill.

The things that are keeping me busy now include:
    • figuring out how to get the audio player to display the artist name, the songs are all exported/converted from iTunes as either 128kbps AAC or MP3 and the ID tags look right on the computer but, on the phone there's only the song name.
    • experimenting with PhoneDirector; it looks much better than the PC Suite software which I wouldn't use anyway because it's Windows-only (primarily a Mac guy). The released version (v1.0.8) won't connect to the phone but the developers have been kind enough to supply me with a pre-release version that does work.
    • trying to find a combination of video encoding options that produce a smoothly-playing 3GP file on the phone; this is a widely-reported problem, that videos transferred to the phone look pixelated and play with random and unexpected pauses.

BTW, if you haven't tried it yet and you have a computer with Bluetooth, I heartily recommend Salling Clicker - works on both Mac and Windows and turns the phone into a remote control. The 6270 isn't officially supported yet but the current version does work with minor cosmetic glitches; I've talked to the developer and full official 6270 support is on the way.

sounds like you've got some work ahead of you...

I've got Opera mini installed on the phone and the app comes up - just no net connection. I've got the VPN T-Mobile internet and was connection fine w/ my S710a...just can't figure out the setup on this 6270...the configurator from nokia and t-mobile aren't doing the trick...

    anybody?

From another thread - have your VM reset and power cycle - supposedly this cures the 'phantom' text message problem.

Got web browsing working fine. Anyone get MMS working yet? I've got the server addresses 'n such for t-mobile, but so far it's a no go...

The phantom text message is the message that supposed to activate and inactivate the voicemail icon on the phone. Usually you don't see it because the phone knows what it is but when alot of imported phones, they can't recognize it so they just display it as a regular text message

I called Tech support and got the same answer about the problem being linked to voicemail icon recognition. They tried to send a software update to my phone but said my phone was not accepting it.
I guess the only thing to do at this point would be to email NOKIA and let them know the situation. HOPEFULLY they will correct the problem in a future firmware update.
In the meantime, I will try the voicemail reset and power cycle just for the heck of it.

Please take a look at this thread (I started it because of problems with my 6111):

I reiterate, I haven't had any problems at all with the MWI on this 6270 which makes me wonder if it's a regional problem?

    6270 settings

I just got my nokia 6270 from myworldphone.com and I have already had t mobile send me the sms settings and the wap tzone settings from the nokia 6230 and they both work fine. The only thing is that I don't get voice mail icon show up when someone leaves me a voice mail. I have tried everything on this forum and it hasn't worked. The only thing I get is a blank text message which seems to be the information being sent to the phone for whether to turn on or off the voice mail icon. I think this might be a settings which needs to be activated on the phone in order to recognize the information being sent by t mobile. Does anyone have any info on this yet?
    Thanks,

When you pressed and held the "1" button on the phone for the first time, you got a prompt displayed that told you to enter the Voicemail phone number....you should have entered +18056377243. Other than that, Voicemail shouldn't need any setup. On my 6270, that's all I did and I get the little envelope icon when there's a Voicemail. I've read all the reports that say it doesn't work for others, and the only thing I can think of is that perhaps I'm in a different market (San Antonio, TX) which has a different VM system?
