Unhappy How to configure port for USB?

    Hello there!

I'm starting to loose the plot with this, so thought I'd ask for some professional help!

I have installed & updated Mobile PhoneTools on my Dell with XP but no matter which port I use to connect USB data cable, I do not get the New Device Installation Wizard that I should do so the MPT can recognise my V3......

All the noob guides I have read (about 27 of them so far!!) all come to a stage where the mobile should be plugged into PC and the PC should automatically detect the phone & it's not doing this....I have tried with 2 different USB cables, tried installing/uninstalling & reinstalling all the drivers needed, tried Motorolla iMegaPack, tried uninstalling & re-installing the MPTs from the CD (it is a genuine bought Motorolla MPT CD)....

It's like the COM ports are not working....does anyone have any ideas, or know how I configure them? Please help!!

    Thanks :-) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

try installing a p2k program to get access to your phone:

    - moto4lin (the best i've used so far)
    - p2k commander
    - p2k tools
give us turntables, some speakers, we'll just come up with something,
we got our neighbours knocking at the door to see what's popping,
f#ck what you think, i ain't stopping! dj, keep it pumping!

    E398 Essentials is wicked

If your PC don't detect your mobile then let it connected, go to "géstionnaire de périphériques" sorry I have it in french and look if you have some interrogation points in yellow ?

    Hi djdano,

I already have p2k commander but it says "Volume name fail" whenever I try to get it to link to the phone?

I thought the PC would have to recognise there was a device plugged into it regardless of what software can or cannot recognise? The PC is supposed to "bing" whenever a new device is attached & automatically start new device wizard and it's not doing this....any ideas?

If you can find the "USB Installer" by Susteen, it may resolve your problem.

    Smile USB connection

been trying to get my new razr v3 to connect, i would get a flash of v3/p or something and would go away after about 5 seconds.
.. then i read somewhere to NOT use front mounted usb connections, I thought they connected to the same place on the motherboard so there would be no difference.... well guess what !!, i tried the rear one on my case and got recognized right away.. got mobile tools running and everythings running fine ...
who'da thought... it's worth a shot.. if it worked for me itcould work for you
    cheers everyone... great forum

if you don't see any yellow highlight and your device is install propertly .

then the problem is maybe your modem/telephony (on your windows) is not activate or enable .

I had this problem too with my rokr ... but i remember i disable the telephony ... that's why It didn't work .

btw do you get any error message when you start your phone tool ?

I have a modem called Motorola Phone on my Device Manager and it is enabled.....

No error message at all - it jsut says phone not connected when it clearly is.....I attatch USB and phone to correct COM port and I get nothing telling me I have done that...no "bing" from the PC, no message, no installation wizard, nothing....it's like the COM port is broken....

in this case , either the cable you are using is not correctly connect to your phone or to your pc ...

or ... like i mentioned above , could be your modem/telephony device is not active ... have you played with your msconfig on your pc ? check if it is desable on start up .

and if you wanna know if your com port is broken or not ... make a com port test and then try to connect another device using that port ... test it ... if it work then it is not the port .

oh and more thing , I don't know about V3 but my ROKR ... you have to set in "connectivity" --->> "usb setting" - DATA/FAX as default connectivity in order to work with your phone tool .
