I am a Verizon Wireless customer in Oregon and I would LOVE to be able to utilize USCC's Quick2Net or better yet 1xRTT in the 3/4 of Oregon that my phone utilizes the USCellular network.
I have heard through the rumor mill that USCC customers can data roam on VZW so that got me wondering if the reciprocal is true?
It was suggested that I post my question here.
My original thread in the VZW forum is here:

I don't know if Verizon has updated it PRL's to support it, but yeah, we were told it was a mutual roaming agreement.

Assuming you don't have any EVDO then the PRL should not need to change at all in order to support data roaming. The real key is what type of username/password do I need to utilize in order to get access? Normally on Verizon networks this is <phonenumber>@vzw3g.com password: vzwOriginally Posted by 0siris
Any suggestions?
Can anybody test this? (I am not currently in a USCC area with my VZW phone)
My roommate has Verizon and roams off US Cellular here at school. I tried connecting to GIN a few weeks back when data roaming was announced in this forum. At that time, it did not work. The next time I see him, I will try it again.

Using my Verizon phone, I cannot access data on US Cellular.

If VZW has a support que in their call centers for when their customers are roaming (USCC does...) then you could contact them and chat about it. Otherwise the only thing I could suggest would be trying to see if it works
Verizon customers should be able to data roam on any USCC network, providing they are picking up 1X.
If you cannot, contact Verizon. If they cannot figure out why, they'll open a ticket with our Roamer Support department, and I just might be the one working on it![]()
Roaming with Verizon on US Cellular in Northern California (Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Plumas Counties) gets you no data or mms either, though 2 way sms, caller id and vmwi work fine.

Thanks for the info. When was the last time you tested this? Apparently the data roaming thing is a recent development (i.e. 2-3 months ago).Originally Posted by ilvla2
As of a month ago it was true, but from what I understand, while USCC people can access Verizon while roaming, the reverse still doesn't work. Now, it could have changed in the past month I suppose, I can't say as I dropped Verizon a month ago. That's one thing I really like about having GSM, especially in NorCal, my data works across networks, no wondering or guessing, it just worksVerizon's native coverage kinda stinks here in Mendocino and Lake Counties, and there is none in Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity Counties, that's Cal-North Wireless country. Sprint only has a TINY bit of coverage in Eureka, none here in Mendocino or Lake Counties.

Question: Were you in a 1xRTT area when you tried this? I am not sure if qnc is supported in the non 1xRTT areas... (i.e IS-95a) "D" on your phone.Originally Posted by ilvla2

Yep, both USCC and Verizon are 1xRTT everywhere up here. USCC and Verizon don't like each other much up here, they even blocked home roaming on USCC for a few months a couple years back (something that had been in place since the Contel and GTE days, due to Verizon's poor native coverage here, in fact, when Contel and later GTE ran the network here, they would program their phones to Auto A because they knew their own service was so bad), that got nixed thankfully, and with USCC turning their CDMA live here about a year ago, USCC home roaming is also included in AC plans (it's always been included in AC plans for the other USCC counties in CA). USCC runs two SID's here in Mendocino and Lake Counties, 1075 for TDMA and AMPS, and 1059 (the same SID used for everything in Humboldt, Del Norte, Siskiyou and Trinity Counties) for CDMA only,

Ditto. The reverse is true, but data roaming using a Verizon phone on US Cellular still does not work.Originally Posted by eprosenx
