    N90 Better Reception upside Down

Ok, so I have a Nokia 6620, and had a Nokia 3620, and 3650 etc etc.

My N90 has a reception problem where in low reception areas when I hold the phone it doesnt get good reception. Where another person on Tmobile would have 2 bars, I have None or no TMobile signal at all.

During my travels around the ATL area yesterday I noticed this, If I hold the phone upside down I get great signal. Turn it back over and I get 1 or two bars.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

It's not so much A question of what position the phone is held in.

However one of static dischrarge from the battery.

    How many bars ? Etc..

    In my Living Room

    Nokia N90
    Carrier: Tmobile
How Many Bars: While Holding the Phone in My hand - NOTHING...not even a drop
How Many Bars: While laying on the table 1 - 2 bars

    Nokia 3620
    Carrier: Tmobile
How Many Bars: Two bars being held in hand in same location.
How Many Bars: Laying on table 2-3 bars

    Nokia N90
    Carrier: Tmobile
How Many Bars: Held upside down I get 2 bars (I would assume my hand is not causing any discharge from the battery to interfere with the antennas ability to get a signal (Is that what you are eluding to XDS2005?)

Yes.. the antenna is in the bottom of the phone... Somebody posted a picture of the manual which showed thats where the antenna is. I personally think that was a bad choice by nokia... but I havn't had signal issues (KNOCK ON WOOD) except for in my house, which I never get good signal in my house with any phone.

Well I am not *****ing but how smart is it to put the antenna in a place where the hand will be holding the phone AT ALL TIMES. Then say...ummm dont block it.

Either I am looking at the diagram wrong or this is the strangest thing I have seen.

I think the moto razr v3 was the same way, with the antenna at the bottom. I had to retrain myself to hold the phone at the hinge. Upside down works too apparently

I can confirm I have the same problem. Currently I'm a ways outside of Tucson in the desert. My Nokia 7250i requires that I stand in the back of the house to get reception. If I use my N90 with the headset I can see quite clearly that the phone gets four bars with the 'bottom' side sitting straight up, zero or one bar otherwise.

I find that when I'm someplace remote that I usually need to hold the phone by the center portion or by the earpiece.

It sucks that they did it, but blame the people who have hissy fits over SAR ratings for it, as they drive companies to do this... the idea being keeping the antenna as far from your head as possible.

Of course the evidence shows that a.) there's nothing conclusive linking cell phones to brain cancer, and b.) having the antenna at your ear, vs. 4 or 5 inches away, really doesn't change your absorption rate.

But, same as the NIMBY's who freak out because they don't take the time to learn about the technology they are complaining about, a group of vocal morons can often effect policy more than a group of less vocal experts.

If you are using a BT headset, or using the N90 as a modem try the following:

Open the display so that the cover is perpendicular to the base.
It should be in an "L " configuration.
Place the phone with the cover down so that the bottom of the phone is now pointing up.

this is EXACTLY same as 6260 and moto V360
there's a simple solution, hold the screen part while talking instead of main body, that to avoid the hand touches antenna part
    or simply use earbud/bt headset
