I wonder if it will be able to do DUN like the XV6600 and the I730......if it can't that will be a real big bummer.

I'm just wondering about compatibility of software with the square screen. I know this was a problem with the HP 6515.

I went on Handango and I'm seeing quite a bit of software for Windows Mobile 5.0. If software supports 5.0, does that mean it automatically supports the square screen, or does it have to specifically state that it supports a square screen??

Any reputable software engineer knows that when he/she is working on a porgram, portability and compatibility are 2 of the most important things to keep in mind (if they apply). My guess is that any high-end software made for WM 5 should be compatible with any screen sizes supported by that operating system.

Square screen issues are and will continue to be an issue with Pocket PC apps for some time. There needs to be more devices on the market that use square screens for developers to really make their code work with it. As a former 6515 owner the is something I heard from many developers.

I do however think the 700w will help the "Square Aware" cause. If sales of this device is strong then developers will see the value of making sure their programs work on the 240x240 resolution.

Bottom line is is that it is an issue but it is getting better and the 700w can definately help the cause.

Not "stole" but "quoted" - the link is provided. I just added "(all photos are made by "VZW Employee Technology" user from HowardForums.com)" to the news item too.

Regarding watermarking: many websites and forums are using through deep linking many photos from msmobiles.com (remember: msmobiles.com goes also to trade shows and conferences and has many its own photos) and the only way to have something from this is to keep "msmobiles.com" logo on images. I don't want to block deep linking though.

Anyway: you could watermark them too - any graphics program can do it.

BTW: thank you for supporting Windows Mobile phones!

    Bluetooth & BMW

Does anyone know if the bluetooth on this phone is compatible with BMW's bluetooth? It really sucks that only the Motorola's from Verizon work with the BMW bluetooth.......

Its a chicken and egg issue on 240*240 screens. The 6515 (I had one) and it was new to the square screen and it was WM2003SE. With the Treo 700w w/ WM5 developers need to get behind it quickly and have good to reason to. Treo's sell very quickly and this will sell very very quickly. Be the first or be left behind.

VZWEmployee thank you for all of the great info. I have updated a thread on another forum I mod at. I also put in the picture "Photo by VZWEmployee @ Howard Forums" so there will be no mistaking ownership and I provided a link to this thread for users there.

    Question Voice Command 1.5

Speaking of screen compatibility, does anyone know if Microsoft's own program, Voice Command 1.5 will be compaitible with the 240x240 screen of the new Treo. I ask as this will be one of the main programs I install for this device should I get this over the xv6700.

I'm leaning towards the Treo 700w right now based on the one-handedness and the phone first aspect of the device. I heard the Speakerphone was crap on the vx6700 too which is important to me, so I hope the Treo is at least marginally better at that.

    All info is truly appreciated!

    Use it as a modem?

Sorry for the newbie question, but does anyone know if the 700W can be used as a modem (via EVDO)?

I really don't think the square screen is going to be an issue. Up until Windows Mobile 5.0 the square screen was an oddity, however 5.0 does have support for it. As a matter of fact I read somewhere that the reason the Treo's screen res 240x240 is due to the fact it is a native res for 5.0.

Don't worry, I'm confident this device will be a HUGE hit! And if these popular software titles don't support the res, then they will patch it real quick...if they want to stay competitive in the marketplace.

    Merry Christmas!!!!!

VC 1.5 works very well on WM5 devices. I see no reason that it won't work equally well on the Treo. It will be the first program I install as it is a MUST for any WM phone.
