HKINGS, I'm curious to know more about this 25% discount you mentioned...

Did the Rep say that you needed to be on a 1yr contract to be eligible? I also noticed that you said you have an i600. Is this discount only available to those upgrading from another PDA phone? I never heard of such a discount...

I am getting the xv6700 and any additional discounts would make my life easier .

Forgive me if this has been convered already, but do we know what CPU is powering the Treo 700w? Webinar's and the internet buzz have said an unnamed Intel CPU so I am thinking Xscale of something newer perhaps since the cost seems to be a bit pricier than handsets with similar hardware specs. The cost may come from the Pocket Office suite that comes with it too...

Here's an example: 2 lines on FS1400 would be $89.99 + 44.99 for unlimted data on the treo and $15.00 for VCAST on the RAZR.

Or, you could go with 1350 minutes on the RAZR for $79.99 and data only on the treo for $49.99. If you keep VCAST, it's only a $5.00 difference. The RAZR really is small enough to carry everywhere.

I think I would go the family share route and share the minutes between the 2 phones. Seems like that would give you the most freedom.

    VZW Employee:

Does all chanels include Best Buy also? They carry the Treo 650 and I was wondering if they would carry the new 700 since im still within my 30 days to get 700 and exchange my phone at a discount.

Also, I just realized how much "press" you are getting and wondered if any district or regional managers will be looking at your profile to find out who is taking camera phone pictures of their "proprietary" information. I dont mind, I like getting info early, but when I worked for Sprint and I released info I made sure to cover my tracks so that I could "report" to the masses.

I am debating between the 650 and the 700w.
My elegible date for the NE2 is exactly on January 5th! Will the VZW stores already have the 700w on that date?

Or am I better off ordering it by phone and getting it overnighted?

Thanks for the info. I spent some time at the Verizon store in the mall today and I learned that there are different data plans. ie the RAZR needs the $15 VCast plan while the Treo will need the $40 data plan.

I have to do some math and apply our corporate discounts but I think my plan to use the 2 phones on the FS plan will work Now I just have to decide if I order the RAZR now and be without e-mail until the 700w ships lol.

    Fat Phone!!

Not sure if anyone caught this yet but um... doesn't this phone seem a little fat to you

    2.30H x 4.40W x 0.90D inches

Side note does anyone know of a good way to protect / keep clean a treo? I'm thinking about putting one of those clear pda screen protectors across the whole thing and then putting it in a case. Any case suggestions?

Mashie, you have another option instead of getting on a family share plan with 2 lines. Before I tell you the option, I need to explain phone swaps work on non-sim card based carriers like Verizon. CDMA based phones use an ESN (electonic serial number) or MEID (mobile equipment id) number to identify them and Verizon uses this number to route the calls to the appriopriate phone. Instead of swapping SIM cards like you would do with GSM/iDen based carriers, you can have a single line and simply change the ESN/MEID on your account each time you want to use a different phone. You can do this for free on Verizon's website through their online account access. So you can have a single line and on Sunday night or Monday morning change the ESN/MEID on your account to the one on your Treo 700w to use during the week and then on then on Friday evening/Saturday morning change the ESN/MEID to the one on your RAZR to use on the weekend. This also means that you can only get one phone at the discounted price (since you're only getting one line) when you port your number over and you'll have to pay full price for the other phone (or buy one from someone or get one on ebay, etc).

I'm not sure which option is cheaper - get a single line, pay less for monthly service, swap out phones but pay full retail price for the second phone or get 2 lines on the family share plan, pay more for monthly service but get both phones at the discounted price. There are 2 things you also need to keep in mind with these options. First with the family share option, you'll have 2 phone numbers. Second, with the single line option, you can take advantage of some plans that Verizon offers called the PDA/Smartphone Voice & Data Choice Bundles which give you voice minutes and unlimited data at a discounted price. You'll have to purchase a PDA/Smartphone like the Treo 700w in order to activate one of those plans on your account and you probably can't get a VCast plan added on (to use with the RAZR) since those plans are meant to be used with a PDA/Smartphone.

There is the third option which br8615 mentioned which is to get the America's Choice voice plan on the RAZR and the data only plan on the Treo 700w but then you'll have to carry both phones around with you during the week.

Let me try to compare monthly costs using 1350 voice minutes (1400 minutes on the family share option) and unlimited data.

Family Share Plan with 2 lines, 1400 minutes and unlimited data on one line.
    $89.99/month + $44.99/month = $134.98/month
Singe line with PDA/Smartphone Voice & Data Choice Bundle with 1350 minutes and unlimited data
    $109.99/month
Two lines, one with 1350 minute America's Choice plan and the other with data only
    $79.99 /month + $49.99/month = $129.98/month

It appears that the single line with PDA/Smartphone Voice & Data Choice bundle will give you the cheapest monthly cost but you'll have to pay full price for one of the phones and you probably won't be able to get a VCast plan to use with the RAZR.

If you want more information on ESN/MEID, PhoneScoop has a great article at the following link which explains it.

Sorry for the long post and I hope I didn't confuse you.

I have a e815 and i have had a Change of responabality thing for like 3 months. I have to have the 700. What do you think that I should do. My parents said that I can use one of their NE2 things. I would then use that upgrade and then give that person my phone and sell my current PPC. But their cheapest data plan is 79.99 with 450 anytime minuets. I need more then that but not as much as the next plan up and thing in the middle. And what kind of txt package comes with that
    just a little help please

Anyone know what my best options are? I've already have a Verizon deal for 2 years with a family plan at 700 minutes. It was one of those good Cosco deals where you get rebates on the phones and no start up fees. But I would like to get some sort of PDA phone and this Treo seems nice...as long as I can sync to my Contacts and use that as my source of phone numbers I'm happy.

Also, if later I need email access what sort of plan does Verizon have? I tried like hell to look at the Verizon site for monthly cost for the "wireless sync" email but I couldn't find a thing. Anyone know?

Well I'm not VZW Employee but I can answer your question. If the Core Choice 450 isn't enough minutes for you, you could just get AC 900 for $59.99 and add the Data Plan for $50., but you are a lot better off just going with the Extra Choice 1350 for $109.00 because for $5. you are getting 450 more minutes. If you can't bite the cost of the data plan, just go for voice only, but watch your usage because Pay-as-you-go adds up QUICKLY! Oh, and no texts are included with those plans.
    Only getting better:

Thank you for the reply. That confirms the 32MB RAM. Did this cause you any problems, with running out of memory or software closing unexpectedly in the background?

No, haven't run into any real memory problems that I know of yet. Had to soft reset yesterday because the device seemed like it was hung up, but that was Wireless Sync's fault I found out. I downloaded one app to try out, "MySportTraining", but had a problem viewing it due to the square screen. Haven't installed any other apps on it.
