    I have a question for all of you.

    I have a PPC 2003 device and I have the LG vx9800. I am looking at this device as the replacement for both but I know nothing about WM5.

    Does anyone have any knowledge of the differences between the OS's other than the obvious screen and resolution differences?

    All info will be humbly accepted.

    Thanks

    I found one store in Jersey who will be holding one for me in the AM - they already have them in stock, they just can't sell them tonight.

    If anyone knows if there's anything official from VZW saying if you have them sell them tonight... let me know!

    Talking Press Release is out!

    01/04/2006

    LAS VEGAS, NV & BEDMINSTER, NJ — For businesses and individuals who want the latest all-in-one mobile communications and business-productivity solution, Palm, Inc. and Verizon Wireless today announced the availability of the Palm® TreoTM 700w smartphone, the first Treo smartphone to take advantage of Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service on its EV-DO network. The Treo 700w smartphone also is the first Treo smartphone to run the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, bringing the hallmark Palm ease of use to Windows Mobile for the first time. It combines a great mobile phone with high-speed wireless data access to email(1) and business applications. The Treo 700w smartphone goes on sale tomorrow and joins the Treo 650 smartphone based on the Palm OS® platform on the Verizon Wireless network.

    BroadbandAccess is Verizon Wireless' premier high-speed wireless data service developed with a range of users in mind. Verizon Wireless' EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) network gives customers a fast, convenient way to conduct business while providing employees the speeds required to work efficiently outside the office. Today, about half the U.S. population, in more than 1,180 major metropolitan markets across the nation, can get average download speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second.(2)

    "Customers want speed," said Lowell McAdam, Verizon Wireless executive vice president and chief operating officer. "Offering BroadbandAccess on the Treo smartphone for the first time satisfies these growing customer needs. By combining Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service with the flexible and robust Windows Mobile operating system, the Treo 700w smartphone gives mobile professionals and businesses access to their most critical information at lightning speed."

    The newest member of the Treo family builds on the award-winning design of the Treo 600 and Treo 650 smartphones and takes advantage of Windows Mobile 5.0, offering Microsoft Office applications for Windows Mobile, Internet Explorer Mobile and Windows Media Player Mobile; as well as direct access to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for mobile access to information.(3) The new smartphone delivers a unique suite of software enhancements on top of Windows Mobile that includes the following:

    * Today Screen enhancements, which feature the ability to "dial by name" with a few keystrokes on the keyboard, perform a web search directly from the Today Screen and perform one-touch dialing with personalized photo speed dials;
    * Ability to manage a call directly from the Today Screen and stay on top of voicemail with on-screen, VCR-like icons, such as rewind, delete and fast-forward controls for easy navigation; and
    * Ability to ignore a call and quickly compose a text message such as "In a meeting" or "Can't talk right now" by selecting the "Ignore with text" option from the incoming-call screen.

    "We are ushering in a new era of mobile solutions that provide access to email, Microsoft Office applications and many other functions that extend the value of the PC," said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft Corporation. "Businesses worldwide are using mobile devices to increase their competitive advantage, and they need solutions that are scalable, low-cost, and easy to deploy. The Treo 700w showcases the dynamic blend of Palm's innovative design, Verizon Wireless's EV-DO network, and the power of Windows Mobile software to connect professionals to their critical information on the go."

    "Customers have long been asking for a Palm Treo smartphone on the Windows platform, and we're thrilled to say it's here on the Verizon Wireless network," said Ed Colligan, president and chief executive officer of Palm, Inc. "The Treo 700w smartphone is powerful, flexible and easy to use, while also being enterprise grade right out of the box."

    Features That Increase Mobile Productivity:

    * EV-DO access for fast downloads of data, email and large attachments;
    * Robust Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system;
    * Intel® XScale® technology-based processor;

    so funny!!!...my local stores say that it should be due out in a couple of months or so!!! They are so retarded. I really want to buy one, go in and ask if they have any, then when they say that it will come out in a couple of months, show them it. If only I had nothing better to do than make them look stupid...

    I'm not sure there is anything "official" since the release is tomorrow. However the PR release posted a page back and the www.engadget.com team are reporting they are now for sale.

    My guess is the stores WILL have them today but are instructed to not sell them. Unless you get a newbie at the store, I doubt they will sell it to you.

    My guess is the few people around here that have scored one either work at a store or know someone that hooked them up early.

    PS: The palm site: http://www.palm.com/us/ says they will be available tomorrow the 5th.

    Check the Palm site out...TONS of new information and pictures. <drool>

    Question

    I have called 7 stores here in the So. Cal, Orange County area, all say they don't have any, to check back tomorrow after their shipments. One dealer wanted to see the press release, I emailed it to him, he had no info!

    I can understand one or two stores questioning, but all 7!

    Makes ya wonder if it's a hit miss for stores?

    As you can see from my previous post I live in the OC as well. My guess is that they haven't received/opened their shipments yet. It appears that most of the people reporting they have them on hold are on the East Coast...therefore 3 hours ahead of us. Just a guess...try calling back in a few hours!

    In the meantime check out www.palm.com

    Everyone {verizon stores} here seems to know about it - the indirect stores seemed kinda clueless, although, one said i was the 8th person in the last two hours to call about it. Oh well. I'll get mine tomorrow in NJ, i'll just be patient. Then it'll be time to test out the XV6700 for a few days when that gets released publicly, and see which I like better. It's a lot of money to spend if you don't have a NE2 to use, figure I might as well try them both.

    Except for the one store I found in NJ, no other Vzw stores in Manhattan have admitted to even having them in stock - they all say they will be here tomorrow...
