Hello. First let me apologize in standard fashion if this has been answered already. I cant find ANYTHING. I just got my data cable for the 9800. It came with a driver CD also. First let me say I attempted to install the drivers and it went through an installation process and worked for one thing, then another one popped up called LG CDMA USB MODEM and when I chose "Search for driver in best location" it came up with nothing. and those locations included the cdrom with the drivers on it. said it was "unable to locate a driver for this device" or something along those lines. So when I go into Bitpim, it cannot detect the phone. when i go to choose a com port, while the cable is plugged in and everything, i have only 2 options and neither work. One is Communications Port (COM1) and the other is HSP56 MicroModem. No mention of a USB port. The usb port should be fine as I use it regularly with other devices. I saw in other threads that I have to "pair up the phone to my computer". What does this mean? Also when I try to "Get Phone Data" it says "Failed to auto-detect the port in use. I couldn't detect any candidate ports". So thats basically all I can think of. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly. And again I apologize if these were answered and are in plain view. Thanks.

installed just fine on 3 different boxes.. one machine I had to make sure that only CD was selected when searching for drivers.. for some reason it wasnt searching the CD drive unless it was the ONLY location checked.. after that it went fine.
other than that.. this iTrimming (eBay seller) supplied USB cord and driver cd have been great..
you might try to direct your driver search to the CD only.. or directly to the folder the drivers for your OS are in..
Hey Pyro, please do let me know and i'll do the same if u come across anything. Twig, I think I might have tried that (went through it so many times trying so i may or may not have) but ill try it again and let u know. I think I also forgot to mention im running windows 98. so its an old pos computer that simply might not be compatible im thinking. luckily im gettin a new system soon so hopefully it'll work. Ive been workin a lot lately so havent had time to mess with it. but ill try checking just the CD for the drivers. ill let you know how it works.
yeah i got bitpim to read the driver but it still cant read the phone. i just progamed my phone by dialing *228 than hitting 1 to program my phone which my bro told me to do now i just gotta see if that works. i would try it right now but im not home im at friends house and i just got the text so i will try it when i get home and i will be sure to inform you on what happens with that. i had already done what Twig said to do thats how i got it to read the drivers and i can use my phone as a modem and all i just cant get bitpim to detect my phone i have tried all combos on how the 9800 connects to the comp and all the ports so i will recheck everything out now that i have the phone programed and all. so i will be sure to inform u on what happens.
So, nothing's working. According to the data cable package, which is an Insten cable, it says it configures my COM4 port to be a usb port. After installing many drivers (from the cd and files others posted) nothing has worked. Bitpim still says cant detect phone. COM4 isn't in my list of available or unavailable ports in bitpim so as far as I can tell, I dont have a COM4 port. Also, now when I open Bitpim with the cable in the computer but not in the phone, i get some kind of error, when i plug in the phone, that I have to close and hope bitpim still runs. Even when everythings plugged in, sometimes the error pops up after opening bitpim. Im totally frustrated with this. should I just wait till I get my new system and try it on a good, fresh computer?

i am having the same prblem with my lg6100. i have tried it on 3 differen windows based boxs and my Mac too. i also have an Instine cable. loaned the cable to a friend of mine that is much better with this computer stuff than i and he couldnt make it work either. turns out the cable or the drivers that came with it are junk. just ordered a cable from acsessorie geeks like my friend has and will post again if it works. by the way his cable worked on all my windows based boxs. the Mac??? we are still working on that one. sorry about the spellingits not my best subject.

not all versions of Windows 95/98/ME have true full USB support.
For the last 4 days I have been struggling with the same problems you guys are. Both my wife's 9800 and mine wouldn't connect via USB cable to either of our laptops. I finally went to BestBuy and bought a Blue Tooth dongle (Kensington). Installed the software and paired the devices with no problems. BitPim still will not "detect" our phones but will "get phone info" and transfer stuff no problem. If you can get hold of a USB Blue Tooth dongle I think it will solve a lot of your problems. Good luck.

I don't ever use the Detect Phone thing in BitPim. I just manually go into the settings and select LG VX 9800 and the proper port number. If you are using bluetooth, go into My Bluetooth Neighborhood (on XP at least), and manually make sure the serial port is there, and connected before doing stuff in BitPim. Works very well for me.
So I guess Im just gonna wait till next week and try it on my new system and hope that works. If it is the cable and/or drivers that are junk, that sucks, but luckily I only payed like 10 bucks shipped for the cable and a free car charger, so it aint bad. Once I get my new XP system, if it doesnt work, Ill try a bluetooth dongle I suppose. Can anyone point me to a good, cheap dongle? Id appreciate it. Ill also let you guys know if anything changes and I somehow manage to get this thing workin. Thanks again.
i have the LGVX9800 + a BLUETOOTH + BitPim (version) 0.8.05

turn off the phone, connect the cable with pc running, THEN turn on the phone! I too spent several unhappy days until a post from paedz718 helped me out. I'm guessing it will work with the 9800 also, although I don't have one of those to try.
