its really tough, it seriously takes a ton of tries. i dont have one on my 8125 yet, just got it today, the screen protector should be here tomorrow. i have the full plastic cover on my 5th gen ipod, and it took so long and was so painfully agonizing that i gave up and waited like a week before i tried again, but after 3 tries that night, i got it. i've installed screen protectors on other pocket pcs too, and it takes alot of time, but with most of them all you need is one because it can be washed under water (BoxWave can for sure). just wash the lint/dirt/specks off and try again...
Looking for the best deal on a TyTN II...

I'm sure you saw this one coming.....

I don't have Outlook running on mine and it still checks my email while on standby. I get the notification and when I click view, it opens Outlook and the email.

I don't remember doing ANY tweak or reg change for Outlook that I'm aware of.

    Classic

I'm waiting until these places that sell the protectors start offering a mail-away service where you mail them your PDA, they expertly apply the screen protector and send it back. I'd pay the extra $5 to have it done over pulling my hair out.

BTW, I haven't had a screen protector on my 8125 at all, been using it heavily for 3 weeks now...screen is in perfect condition. I just clean it every few days at night using q-tips (one end is damp with water and the other is dry).

Just so you don't feel like a freak... I don't keep Outlook running all the time, and have it set to check email every 15 minutes. It just works. Standby or not. I'm using IMAP so when I'm home and the 8125 is plugged in it doesn't bother me. 98% of the time I read the message before Pocket Outlook gets it unread so I don't get a notification. The message is just there, quietly. When I'm out and about, I'll get a notification of mail even when the device is in its case on my hip.

I had a few rocky days when I first got my 8125 in getting both the wi-fi and EDGE the connections to work properly, but ::knock on wood:: it has been working very well for the past 5 days or so.

I am one of those folks who was told that I had to buy the $39.99 PDA plan and I didn't argue or try and get around that back to the $19.99 plan, so I searched around and found the settings for that are supposed to be for the data plan (isp.cingular instead of wap.cingular). Is it really faster or better? I don't know, but using the Opera browser there are times where I can barely tell whether I'm connecting through EDGE or wi-fi.

isp.cingular in my experience has no difference in throughput over wap.apn HOWEVER it does have a lower latency (faster response) which translate into perceived faster speed.

Also there are far less people accessing isp.cingular than wap.cingular so again, your overall speed can be faster. However at the end of the day, wap.cingular and isp.cingular give you the same EDGE throughput speeds.

I've verified this myself when I had access to both last month...there only reason you would need the PDA $44.99 plan is if you are using Cingular's XPress Mail and/or Good Technology's system I believe.

Loading the wap version of site has nothing to do with your APN. Any browser, on your PC or PDA report what version/type they are to the webserver which is how the server can tailor content to specific browsers.

Search this thread, there are a few posts on how to have Pocket Internet Explorer report itself as Internet Explorer which will do what you want.

    Overwriting PDA problems

When your desktop is overwriting your pda you need to change the activesync rule settings. Go to tools options in Activesync and click on rules. Make sure the default rule is leave the item unresolved. This should resolve the issue.

Wow, good for you. It wasn't really that I asked him about it, rather I explained to him how exchange sends an e-mail to mynumber@cingularme.com and he said their servers have no way of diffrentiating whether or not it's coming from an exchange server. He's in data support so he should know. I would like to know what plan you have for text messaging on your account so I can duplicate it to see if it works.

Worse of all these activities drains battery faster than normal unless you configure server to use longer heart beat period. You definitely need unlimited data plan to use this feature.
Anyone with this phone would be stupid not to spend the $20 on unlimited data. It just makes sense. Yes, you are correct that the heartbeat causes an overhead throughout the month of about 4-5MB extra, and it does drain the battery, but I'd much rather know that my e-mails are coming on time and properly using AKU2. Also, since I administer my own exchange server, I can set the proper registry keys and firewall timeouts so that it sends packets less often, and users have been reporting only 1-2MB of overhead throughout the month. I'm still researching the above point to figure out which valuse need to be changes and what they should be changed to, so if you have any info on it, please let me know.

UH OH! Here I was praising the device and loving it but I've noticed in the last few days that for no apparent reason I'll bring it out of standby and notice that during it's nap it has soft-reset by itself!

This has happened twice and I can't figure out what the reasoning is behind this. For all purposes it's been rock solid and working great on all fronts but now I'm annoyed that it's restarting by itself without me annoying.

Any HS850 owners here notice that using Voice Command with the headset is quirky? It just doesn't pick up my voice well at all. I have to practically shout for the voice recognition to hear me. But if I use the handset, it works like a charm, perfect every time.

Also, Windows Media support through Voice Command is way way buggy. If you are playing a tune, and you hit the voice command button, it stops the music so it can listen to your command. But after that, it doesn't always work.. the music keeps playing. Especially if you give the command "pause" followed by "play".

Doesn't Microsoft have a QA department???

Yeah, screw the screen protectors. What is there to protect it from anyway? Dirt/smudges? Like I said, I used the Apple iKlear cleaning solution.. and man, my screen is like factory brand new again. What else is there to worry about? Scratches. Um, no. The screen is already scratch resistant.. it has to be, because you're dragging a plastic stylus on it all the time. I am NOT spending another $27 on screen protectors until someone comes up with one that is totally failsafe.

PS, as far as washing the BoxWave screens.. yeah you can wash & rinse them, but then what? There are water droplets on the damn thing, and even if you try to wave it around to dry it, some of the tiny droplets stick to the screen. The instructions say a few droplets is ok to leave on there as you apply it, so I tried to apply it.. once again, lint & dust finds its way to my screen somehow. Grr.

    8125 EDGE communication always on?

Hope you guys can help me on this one...
Once I turn on my phone I never get the E (EDGE) symbol by itself. Instead - I always get the E with the two arrows showing EDGE activity going on.
Does this mean that data is constantly being transfered? I have no application running obviously when the phone starts up.

I have Xpressmail installed, but it doesn't push emails. Works fine when I do send and receive - but no push. Anything to do with this??

Do you have a registry editor installed on your phone? If so, open it up and do this:

    Code:
    * Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Phone
    * Create new DWORD value named Flags2
    * Set its decimal value to 16
    * Hit OK, close the registry editor
    * Soft reset
Then there will be a "disconnect" button when you tap the "E".. see if you can disconnect it and see if that does anything at all. Just an idea.
