IF Cingular wants to force you to a full speed data plan, and

IF WAP is more than enough speed for a regular (Moto V551) cell phone, and

IF MediaWorks is supposed to be for multimedia cell phones only, then

Wouldn't it be in their interest to choke the wap.cingular access points?

Guess I'll know for sure when I swap my SIM to the 8125 some day, and it still pokes along at 40-60 kbs.
Just yesterday I got 135kbps on my Treo 650 using wap.cingular which is what I've always gotten on average (80-135 range.)
I'm pretty sure wap.cingular is (and always has been) restricted to 3 time slots (instead of 4) but that should still give you up to about 185 or so. But data appears to be very heavily used in this area and I hardly ever get above 135 (although it happens rarely.)

Will the 8125 be upgradable to bluetooth 2.0 with a firmware update?

I know there is a program for XScale processors that lets you alter the clock speed, XScalar I think is what its called. Is there something like that for TI processors? I'd be willing to charge my 8125 every night if it meant I got a bit more out of it during the day.

I believe there is a program on the way. Sorry I don't have anymore info for you. I just remember reading about it somewhere.

So has anyone here used for a period of time any version of the Wizard? I'm curious how it 'feels' when being used as a phone against your ear.. Like the Blackberry 72XX's don't feel like a phone, I'm wondering if this feels as awkward. Also, I'm thinking a nice holster like the Blackberry would be nice so you can pop it in and out with the face turned inward so you can access it easily. Anything like that exist?

    Question

No one has answered the question about buying the phone outright yet. How would one go about just buying the phone with no service? If it is indeed $449 without a contract (which I doubt), how would someone go about ordering the phone? Could I go to a Cingular corporate store that might have some in stock? Or would I have to call a certain CS number? Would I be able to buy just the phone through the B2B site or through their CS and get a discount??

    Question

Who really thinks this phone coming out Feb. 6th?? That's the date I got from a Sales guys over the phone a couple of days ago. But then I call back and they don't know what phone I'm talking about. The person with the hands-on pics was comforting, yet the guys at the store say that they should have gotten the POS signage by now if it's coming out beginning of Feb....

Person with pic: What area do you live in that you got the demo from the rep?

You call them (or go to a store which has them in stock) and tell them you already have a contract, but you would like to purchase the phone. It's not complicated at all. I had to do it with my 2125.

I got Feb 6th too from the executive customer support group, hopefully that's accurate! Who knows, that could also just be the date that they announce it, and could have another date for actual delivery to stores.

Naveen: The Dopod 838 and the Cingular 8125 are identical hardware-wise. The software differences remain to be seen.

hitechy: The 8125 should get BT 2.0 and push e-mail via MS AKU 2.0 but it's up to Cingular as to when the firmware upgrade will be released. I'm sure these firmeare uprades will be hacked onto the 8125 by others before Cingular releases their own.

pjammin10: Anyone who wants to should be able to go into a Cingular store and buy the 8125 outright for $450 (the no-contract price.) Cingular can't "make" you buy any particular service(s) with it.

I stopped into a store in my area with my 2125 and they still hadn't gotten a real 2125 yet either. When I asked about the 8125 I got the RCA dog look.

I was wondering about that. If I order an 8125 from Cingular Telesales, will they autamatically upgrade me from the 19.95 plan to the 39.95 one?
