Cool. It looks more and more like Feb. 6 but I'll not be holding my breath. I have enough feelers out to enough local stores where I should get one soon after release.

... I would've just switched over to Verizon by now, but I still have a year in my contract. Luckily since I'm still under ATT I can switch over to Cingular without paying a penalty but get the phone at the discounted price.

I think he means by canceling his plan, as if he were switching from Cingular Blue to T-Mo. I too switched from ATT to Cingular last year and got 6 phones from a 3 line family plan. I got three initial phones and then each line already had an upgrade available online. Hopefully you get the same deal too!

Intersting you are discussing this as I was just about to post something simialr.

I'm a ATT customer. Odd it makes a difference, but it seems to even though my monthly bill clearly says "Cingular". Part of my plan with ATT is a free phone every two years which is due now. The last phone (first with the ATT plan) was the most expensive they carried at the time, so I expect something similar in value. I will also need new plans, though I am more than happy with what I have. So I imagine there will be some amount of negotiating.

Question is, will I be best to do this online, on the phone to Cingular or in a store? I have the oddest hunch they will all be different offers. Which would you recommend?

to put it simply, you wont get the 8125 for free. . .you'll end up paying the "new cust." pricing and also you will need to look at a new rate plan

I wouldn't count on there really being any negotiating or discounts on phones switching over from AT&T (not even the new customer discount because technically you are not a new customer). I did the switch when the Audiovox SMT 5600 came out and I didn't get any discounts or anything (I did ask), plus I had to choose a new talk plan as the one for AT&T was not available by Cingluar.

Last week I spoke with a Cingular store employee and he said the 8125 would arrive the 29th, so I phoned today and they have not received them (big surprise) and he did not have a definite date. He did however provide me with his email address and told me to email him my info so that he had it on file and could contact me when they arrived. Once I sent the email he sent me a confirmation stating he got it, so hopefully he will contact me when they arrive. They get deliveries everyday, not just once a week, so hopefully they will start trickling in soon. A lot of people are reporting the 6th which I hope is true because I scheduled that day off for recovery (I live in Seattle and there is going to be a lot of partying going on because of the Seahawks in the Super Bowl). So now I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the 6th!

the rep specifically told me that my number will be ported over to Cingular, I will pick a new plan, sign a new contract, and so then be able to get the contract discount on the 8125. obviously, i'll see if that's indeed correct when i walk in the store next time to buy the phone. i may go in tomorrow again just to play with the phone some more and see if i can sign up to be notified when they come in. as far as which store it is......... sorry, but i'm a buddy f**ker... i'll let you know when i bought one!!!
