Cingular will give you the unlock code if you just call and ask them for it. They'll send it to you within 5 days via SMS.
The catch is that "you have to be with them for 3 months with your account in good standing" from what people tell me over and over. I don't know if that means you have to have THIS phone for 3 months before they'll give it to you or if that means you have have to have been a Cingular customer for 3 months.

So just call and ask for the "subsidy unlock code."

If i remember correctly how activesync chooses the contacts to sync with,if you're going to use outlook, it won't filter into folders, it'll only do the external folder, so you could just put everyone you want in your pda in the main folder and the rest in a subfolder or ... maybe there's a way to do a different folder or something like that. but I remember when i had a pda beforehand (awhile ago) it would do something like that. However, if you want to use a different program, i'm not sure how that would work. *shrug* I'll have to look @ activesync to do that. you may want to look @ the microsoft activesync pages to see if you can do that... since Activesync is the program which will handle the sync itself, not the phone..

btw. if you are using exchange it won't search those contacts on the server, just the ones in your personal outlook folder. unless all of your company is in your personal outlook contacts folder .... then i dunno.

To tell you the truth, I blindly set my Treo 650 to sync with outlook and it just so happened to sync only my personal contacts. You might want to dig around and see how to create different address books within Outlook. Sorry couldn't help you out....

Now that we're all getting our beloved 8125's (mines out for delivery), what is the best case that allows the keyboard to be opened ? - want one that has a belt clip, allows the keyboard to open but is unobtrusive when the phone is just used in phone mode (means the front cover can fold back behind the unit?). I have seen the picture of the provided case and wiull give that a try but suspect I will need one that I don't have to remove the whole phone from.

Also, whats a source for a resonably priced extra charger so I can leave one at home/work

or you can do the way i mentioned above as soon as you get your phone so you don't have to wait at all

FWIW, I took my MPx220 into a Cingular store and put the MPx220 SIM into the 8125 and IE just worked. My MPx220 currently has MediaNet Unlimited.

Just got my 8125, noticed something interesting... The Blackberry charger I have (mini USB) doesn't appear to charge the battery, but the adapter that came with it does. I thought the miniusb port was standard? The manual says you can charge it off of a USB port too, so you'd think the BB charger would work.. it's the same cable..

It's actually very easy to sync only a subset. On your PC, in the ActiveSync window, right-click on Contacts -> Settings....

Then choose between "Sync all contacts", "Sync only the following contacts", or "Sync only those in the following selected categories"

The last is what I do. I created a new category called SyncToPDA and assigned that to all the contacts I want synced.

I haven't gotten my phone, but my audiovox smt5600 charger won't charge the razr one despite both having miniusb ports, and the same doesn't work the other way around. or at least i think so.
