Normally you always get a new SIM with any new phone you purchase from Cingular so you'll have an updated SIM. I think the logic is that most people don't buy phones more often than once every 2-3 years and they want you to use the latest SIMs.
As is always the case, you don't need to use the new SIM, you can just use your old one and save yourself a phone call to CS. Especially if you're already using a newer 64k SIM.
Some day you may want that SIM so you can use it in a 3G phone (your existing pre 3G SIM won't work for a 3G phone) so hang on to it in case you ever need it. Of course if you ever get a 3G phone from Cingular, it'll come with a new SIM also.

Okay, cool. Thanks for the info! So when will my new plan and stuff show up on my account online? After the current billing cycle?Originally Posted by taylorh
Yeah well it also looked like they used the sim when they were setting it up because my new sim was in the phone already when i opened it. *grin* i just took it out and replaced it with mine. is there any way to not show the sim card contacts. i don't need them to be shown.
From what I can tell, you should see a little antenna thing on the top instead of the E<--> thing. if you see the antenna tower thing that means you're using wifi, if you see the e<-> or g<-> you are using medianetOriginally Posted by J Crew
***Caveat: I AM AN AVID TREO 650 USER***
ok, my initial impression on the 8125:
Pros:
-Size is pretty well, not a 1-hander specifically..but pretty decent
-WIFI is neat (Treo 650 doesnt have this)
-Camera is nice
Cons:
-THIS THING IS SLOOOOWWWWWWWWWW! (Maybe I need this oveclock it or something)
-Keyboard lights NEVER turn on automatically (is there a hack for this?!)
-I needed to soft reset RIGHT AFTER LOADING MSN MESSENGER!
Overall, this 8125 is too laggy for me. And not to mention, I found myself using the stylus WAY TOO MUCH (with the Treo 650, I hardly ever had to)
I probably will use this as a standard PDA (my toy) for now...until some good hacks/ROM updates come out.
The Treo 650 will STILL be my MAIN phone. (Cant beat the chatter/verichat combo)
As for consumers, I was told the next shipment is on the 18th, meaning stores will have them anywhere from the 20th to the 23rd. I've heard everything from the 18th, 19th, 20th, and 23rd. I've had the 20th and 23rd repeated several times.
As for getting it sooner without b2b or premier.... Suck up to the largest COR store in your area. The manager out here is getting me a demo model tomorrow, and I'll go back on the 20th to actually pay for it.![]()

I should add, I am quite dissapointed.
This phone does not live up to the "hype" I had expected
OK, I'm sure i'm gonna get a ton of crap for posting this here-so i'm warning you now-if ur gonna be an a$$, just dont respond.
I got my 8125 today and yesterday i had the unlimited mediaNet added onto my account. The internet works and all, but its slower than AOL dialup. It seriously takes a minimum of 20-25 seconds just to load google.com i thought edge and gprs was supposed to be faster than this. would it make a difference if i switched to the pda plan? could someone please help me out here. BTW, i'm in phx. thanks!

is it possible to use AgileMessenger via-- wifi? meaning there would be no charge per IM and being online?

Txs,
Matt.
Just got it today. I'm putting it back into the mail on monday.
I just can't make myself like it. The form factor is nice, but the ergonomics are painful, and the UI is nothing short of torture compared to a dedicated phone or a treo. I actually prefer using the SLVR to this thing.
I even tried using the Opera browser instead of the horrid Pocket IE (I had hopes that they had improved it. not much). Browsing is just a pain. It's almost as bad as browsing pages on the SLVR, just with a bigger screen and a keyboard.
So what am I going to do? I had used and returned a Nokia 770 internet tablet previously. I'm going to buy another one, and tether it to either the SLVR or the palm for data connectivity when I feel a need to browse.
The device feels solid, the keyboard's ok, but frankly it's a little chunky. When they can drop the thickness by a third and make the thing out of metal I'll try again.
Edit. I should add, the thing is slow. S. L. O. W. I'm not even talking about rendering speeds for the web. I'm talking about UI responsiveness. When I click a menu, wait for it to pop up, and then have to actually watch it go away as it redraws. ick. When I press a button, I want something to happen. Now.
Please please please come out with an EDGE enabled SLVR or even better 3G. sigh.

Are you sure you are using EDGE and not GPRS?Originally Posted by Mikol
If EDGE is not available, the it defaults to GPRS, which is slower than a 56K dial-up.
