went to the verizon store, asked about the firmware update and was told no such thing exists, and that if i wanted i could have them send me a new phone since they didnt have any in the store or to upgrade the phone to fix the "wear and tear" use of the vibrate (after i told him it was that weak since i had the phone)... the guy just popped the battery cover off, took the battery out and looked at the tag underneath... is this true, looking at my phone S/W version im on 87_01.17.03

My Phone shipped with 1.1E.00 which is newer than 1.17.03... so if your phone has 1.17.03 and the store you go to says its current... they are so dead wrong. Try another store.

If they are going to send you a new phone, then let them
The vibrate is stronger on the 1.1E.00 firmware - not sure why that store can't flash you to 1.1E.00, but who knows.
You can try going to another store, but if they wanted to send me a new one, I'd let them. Or you can call CS and see what they say - tell them you have 1.17.03, the original firmware, and 1.1E.00 has a stronger vibrate which is what you have to rely on because of your situation/job/whatever.

He shouldn't have to tell them anything... the software release is in ALL stores that have Technicians in them. If the person you spoke with said your's is up to date... not only is that person dead wrong they don't know their job and I would NOT go back to that store for anything technically related. Find another corporate store in the area that has a technician that knows that the he** they are doing or flash the software yourself.
If there's nothing wrong with the phone don't have them ship you another one. The risks at this point to get a bad fru are very good and not something I would recommend.
Don't complain about something you have the ability to change. I don't want to hear about it.

If I may ask which store was this in what area? So anyone else in that area can stay away as well...

I waited till my V710 was 11.5 months old, and got it swapped out.
The FRU's are a heck of a lot better than my year old beat up phone.
And the build quality and camera were much better as well. I wouldn't hesitate.
I upgraded mine yesterday. I called 2 stores in downtown Philadelphia and when I asked what the latest firmware was for my phone they all say the old one.
So I said f it and did it myself. i couldnt get it to work with the flash & test commands program. it kept saying "MA type 0 not supported" and "Chipset type 32 not supported". So after reading a bit i used RSD lite and it went right through the first time no problems. My phone actually booted up right away like normal afterwards as well.
Maybe this has already been asked in this thread, but since it is 77 pages long it will be easier for me to just ask. Does the new firmware fix the annoying "low battery" beep that cannot be turned off? If not, does the amp'd e816 do the same thing with the "low battery" beep?
The E815 still does the low battery beep, and it does it even if it's silent. I like this, because no matter what's going on, your phone is telling you it's dying.
If you haven't upgraded yet, I would. I don't use DUN but I use my alarms so it was a fair trade. And if you don't like it, you can always flash back I guess.

Your enthusiasm is nice and all but there's a little problem...
You can't back up the firmware of any CDMA phone in a form that can be written back to the phone.
Also, we already have all these flash files available for the VZW and Alltel e815!
There is no need for your generous and bold offer.

There has only been one firmware leaked for the Alltel E815. So if Alltel was my provider, that's what I'd use.
All the firmwares that have been leaked are listed on the page in my sig (humpa.com/vzw).
We've never heard of that version.
What carrier are you on? Where did you get the phone?
This is an E815?
With the firmware 8720_05.05.00 of AllTel, they figured out the bluetooth transfer (OBEX) automatically and they also have added the THEMES OPTION, so i recommend to everyone who can get this firmware and enjoy it
