Look at what they are doing to the Razr and E815 to disable this.

And if you have an E815, it will be hard to argue with them when the only way you could get DUN enabled in the first place was doing a ##DIALUP

It is against the TOS to tether an EVDO capable phone - they don't say that it is ok on an EVDO capable phone that is forced to 1x mode.

And they don't even officially support minutes of usage tethering anymore on any phone. But they used to, so I feel safe doing that. Many of us switched to Verzion specifically for this feature.
Well, yes and no. Theoretically, by forcing your phone to not use "VCast" it no longer is a "VCast phone"

I will say this, I have never had any problem with tethering via EV-DO on Verizon. I don't abuse it, and the network does not charge me. Verizon certainly does not want to think of me as a member of the media, so, I know I'm not getting any special treatment from them on this...

Verizon does what Sprint does. They call people who download hundreds of megs a month and tells them to change plans to the $60 jumbo aircard plan. If they don't comply, they lose EV-DO completely on the plan-side. Nobody is charged for tethering right now, that will change once dun.vzw3g.com gets fully operational, and until then, relax and don't abuse the network... it's their network.

Ah I can't believe I've missed this post the past 2 days. From the replies this new firmware update sounds like a winner. I'll have it done asap

Sure, tell me that now that I've flashed my E815 and no longer have DUN
j/k - Actually, seeing as I can now use my V710 and DUN with my Axim X51v, I don't need DUN on the E815 anymore. I was using the E815 with my Axim, but I was always paranoid, and for me that just stopped it from being the "fun" it should've been.

I'm confused about the Nat'l Access issue. My plan states that I have Nat'l Access as a feature. When I look up the specifics, it says:

    NATL ENHANCED SVC ACCESS $0.00
    PREMIUM NTWK SVC ACCESS $0.00

I have been using the dial-up feature a lot. And when I say a lot, I mean it might stay lit most of the weekend if I'm on a business trip in a hotel with no access. Hundreds of minutes. What the hell should I be worried about in this case???

Woops...scratch that last one. I was under the wrong number. On my Family Share, it has my wife's phone listed with Nat'l Access (VX 6000). Mine has nothing, but does have it as an option that could be added/deleted. It shows it as a "zero" cost item...I still don't get it.

I guess I'll be waiting for that phone call that Humpa mentioned...

    New York Phone Book Bug

I have not seen any discussion of this bug which drives me nuts.
I have two entries in my phone book (not the real numbers):
    1) John: 212-555-1212
    2) Forward to John: *71-212-555-1212

If I call John, and then look at the list of dialed numbers, it displays as "Forward to John".

Can someone check whether the new firmware fixes this.

    How about the following:

    1) If you display only the "Primary" contact number in the Contacts list, and then call one of the other numbers by pressing the left or right arrow, it changes the Primary setting to that number.

    2) There does not seem to be any way to manually enter hyphens when entering a phone number. Setting hyphenation "On' or "Auto" do the same thing. (e.g.: I cannot really enter *71-212-555-1212, as shown above.)

    3) The voice dialing does not recognize the * digit.

Regaurding the contact entries, that is how the phone was meant to function. The phone displays "Forward to John" when you call because it ignores any prefixes and displays the first contact with that number in alphabetical order, so if you were to put "Z Forward to John", then when you place a call to John, it will display John because it comes before "Z Forward to John". (a positive use for this is that when u place a call to 555-1212 by manually entering the number and you have a contact that is 111-555-1212 (with the area code), the phone will display the contact name)

    1) Once again, I believe this is a purposeful function because there is no other way to specify a "primary" number. I agree with you that it should not be this way, but I do believe it was the way Moto intended it to be and is not a "problem"

    2) Also not a "problem." No phone I've ever seen has been able to manually insert hyphens. There's not much of an actual purpose for it easier other than making it easier for your eye to see it, it does not make a difference in dialing.

    3) I don't believe this was on Moto's "to fix" list, but I agree with you that this feature should be implemented.

Has anyone tried having someone in your contacts call you while on another call already so you can see if the Caller ID Picture ID is working correctly? Ya know....instead of getting that little red "slash circle"?? THAT bug actually drives me nuts.

Oh...and do we know for certain that there isn't a seem to re-enable DUN? QNC uses minutes, right?

you won't be able to use #777 as the dialup number, but if you have your own dial-up provider you will be fine, at 14.4kbps

Actually, if QNC is not working, I doubt another number would work. Can you confirm it does with your (updated?) E815?

Because DUN is handled through a different (and isolate-able) part of the firmware. Think of it as like a different program than the web browser running in the background.
