Someone else may have already pointed this out. But the current firmware you have on your phone is available here, http://ryfiles.com/flash, in case you flash it to the newer version and want to later return it to the previous version.

I have never flashed my phone, and don't know if it's actually possible to revert it back to a previous version. But I don't see why it wouldn't be.

    Good luck.

    One more thing.....

THE SCREEN SAVERS FINALLY WORK! (albeit VERY slowly with the animated ones)

But who really cares about that anyway

Took the plunge and flashed. Here are my results so far with limited testing (it's late ):

1.) As others have mentioned Dial-up Networking no longer works (not a deal breaker for me either way).

2.) OBEX still works (Same seem edit)

3.) Alarm clock now seems to work properly (only tested it with a missed call. Haven't tried a text message yet).

4.) Free WAP still works (have to reselect your modified Web Session in the service menu though)

5.) Personal MMS server still works (have to recreate entry in Message Settings though)

So far this is the extent of my testing. I'll do more (mainly calls) in the morning (hopefully speakerphone echo is fixed).

BTW, thanks for the file Humpa.

I checked the nvm_data file to make sure verizon didn't try adding @dun.vzw3g.com to stop us from tethering like on the lg 8100... and they didn't

the phone tries to connect but fails at login (user name and password not valid at domain)... using either phone#@vzw3g.com or qnc

(tethering is when you use your cell phone as a modem for your pc)

Note for seem editors: seem 2742 offset 59 is different then the last firmware

    new= 3,4,6,7 enabled
    old= 0,3,4,7 enabled

I didn't have time to research what this offset would affect, but it may be a good idea to change this on the premodified 2742 seem that's floating around or modify your current one until we know what this affects.

    EDIT: Here's one of them
    59/6 (1=Hide, 0=Show) Hide Enhanced Roaming Indicators
(wonder why they would hide ERI indicators?)
and i'm guessing the 0 isn't that important either... i tried changing both and nothing bad happened so the old premodified 2742 is safe.

For those that don't need DUN (i'm one who actually uses it now and then), I'd recommend this update.

The flash takes no more than 10 minutes to perform and you have a 99% chance to recover your phone if it fails. Hold * and # and the power button to recover from a bad flash when your phone won't turn on. It won't power the screen, but you will see some letters and numbers come up under where your phone's name usually is and you can flash it again.

Now enough of this dead phone talk and onto the procedure.

Download and install the latest PST ... I bet even limewire has it

(Motorola PST 7.2.3 Phone Programmer)... anyway get it and install it!

open up Flash and Test Commands and plug your phone into the usb port.

The next part is important! Let your OS install all of the drivers... there's a few of them. Don't try to flash anything until it's done. If it can't find the drivers direct it to C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST .

After the drivers are all installed you should see the device name listed under the Flash Prog Ready box in the bottom left.

Now click on the browse button and find the new firmware file you downloaded...

After that, click on your device's name and your phone should go into a flash ready sleep mode.

make sure the cable is secure and the phone is sitting somewhere that you won't need to move it for a little while (DON'T hold it in your hand as a movement might shake the cable enough to fail the flash).

FINALLY, hold your breath (well don't but you know what I mean) and click Flash.

There might be another driver that will install somewhere during the process, so don't rush it and make sure you follow the prompts to install the drivers.

Once it is done, it will prompt you and attempt to wake up your phone. It does take a while (and if it is your first time, it will seem like an eternity lol). Don't panic! The phone is flashed and is ok, if you waited an extremely long time and it still didn't restart, you CAN unplug the usb cable and try the power button. If that is a no go, take out the battery and plug it back in. Now, try the power button. 99% of the time this works.

As I said earlier, if it does fail during the flash, you can revive it. A bootloader is a file on the phone that doesn't get overwritten in an ordinary flash. Just incase the flash fails, you hold * and # and Power and a weird name will be listed under device in which you can flash the phone again with and it'll be fine.

The main two reasons phones fail a flash are:
#1. Battery wasn't powerful enough and it died... please make sure the battery has enough power (don't risk it)
#2. The user got anxious and jiggled the wire while flashing (A BIG NO NO!)

One more thing, if for some reason you want to flash to an older firmware, you can and if it doesn't want to, there is another program (MultiFlashFlex.exe) in the PST folder that will force the older software to install (just make sure the box is checked in the top right).

I hope this guide has comforted you in your want to flash yourself (or maybe it scared you??).... in either case good luck and post any questions.

My E815 was doing the text messaging soft reboot before I gave it to my friend when I bought my XV6700... my other friend got an E815 and his is doing it as well. Neither of them use DUN so this firmware will be much appreciated, I'm sure.

Yes it is... it's available in stores today. Give them a call and make sure they have downloaded it and that they have the proper staff and equipment to flash it. It sucks when you go there and they don't have the right wire or they don't have the software.
