getting DUN to work in Vista with the USB cable is easy...
find the CDMA USBModem.inf file (where your driver install folder is located) and add the following lines to the .inf file (where it says <---- ADD THIS LINE below...) under each of the following sections in the file:
[Modem1.NT]
DriverVer=05/13/1999
CopyFiles=FakeModemCopyFileSection
AddReg = All, MfgAddReg, Modem1.AddReg, Voice, EXTERNAL, MDMGL007.V90_Voice,MDMGL004.ExtraCID,MDMGL001.Ters eResp
include=mdmcpq.inf <---- ADD THIS LINE
[Modem1.NT.Services]
AddService=usbser, 0x00000000, LowerFilter_Service_Inst
include=mdmcpq.inf <---- ADD THIS LINE
[Modem1.NT.HW]
AddReg=LowerFilterAddReg
include=mdmcpq.inf <---- ADD THIS LINE
then uninstall your failed vista driver install... and re-install with the modified .inf file above and you should be gold.
The existing USB driver for the xv6700 works great in windows Vista.
I had the hack working for enabling the phone as a modem on my laptop with Windows XP Pro. However now when I connect it...it gives me an error message "USB Device not recognized".
When I update the driver to the one provided in several previous posts I get another error message stating "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware"
Then if I try to connect using the USB dialer I get "Error 680: There was no dial tone."
I have made sure that everything was disconnected on the XV6700 with no phone or data calls. There is no active sync conflicts since this isn't even installed on the laptop. This worked fine just a month ago. It is as if there was some sort of update to the phone causing this error since I have rolled back all windows updates to the date the phone last worked correctly on the laptop.
Is there a new driver I need to install on the phone or has Verizon installed an update that renders the phone no longer usable as a modem?
Just a follow-up to this message. It appears that if I use a different USB port the phone will magically work. Strange that a different USB port on the same laptop will not see the phone. To anyone else having this issue just try different ports to see if you can use your phone as a modem again. Very maddening indeed.
I have been experiencing variations of the same problem. Sometimes the VX6700 connects seamlessly to the laptop via the USB port, on other occasions, I find that I must start the wmodem, put the VX6700 in sleep mode, connect the USB cable, then dial and everything connects.
Just as frequently, I get the error 680 or no dial tone and then keep mucking around with the VX6700, USB interface and computer and finally get connected, having used so many different combinations of these methods that it appears there has been VZW patch to try and keep us out!
Any suggestions would be appreciated. This happens in many parts of the USA using both EvDo & 1X.
I have read the thread about using the 6700 as a tethered modem, but not the 6600. When I try to follow the directions below I just get a recording from Verizon saying the call cannot be completed as dialed. I am however able to dial in other ## items such as ##33284 Field Diagnostics - that one works fine.
Any thoughts? Have not been willing to switch to the 6700 because of smaller screen, slower operation . . .
Help! I need the two files from the Getting started CD. Is there any place I can download them or can someone email them to me? UT Starcom want's $50 plus shipping and tax for them.
ok got another question. On this phone, in this method do you get EVDO Acess. SO like will you get the 400-700 Kbps speeds if in an evdo area. Or is this auto change to 1X network so only 100 kbps max out. Because i have a v3m and when i use QPST, edit a few files, i get full EVDO internet speeds. I was wondering what the speeds are on this phone.
I have a Vista Laptop and a XV6700. I cannot get it to connect via bluetooth or USB cable. I have all the disks, have checked the hard drive on the laptop and the memory on my XV6700 and cannot find the files listed here to hack. I've tried everything to find these files on the resources I have. Do I find the files on the hard drive of my laptop? How do I get them off the CDs I have from Verizon? I am pretty computer literate, and the threads I read here always leave out one key piece of information, like where the files are on the HD, memory, or CD.
can i do this so i can connect my pc to my xv6700 and then wifi on my xv6700 and use the internet on my pc throw my xv6700? how do i do that plz someone!
