There's actually not that much crap loaded with the VZ version, it's not like the Sprint version. Provisioning info and the MMS client basically.

What data plan do you need to use this? Laptop or PDA connect? I have broadband access for PDA's.

    Bluetooth DUN

I followed the instructions to enable Bluetooth DUN many times. I was able to get to the menu and turn Bluetooth DUN on, it asks me to push ok to reboot the device, I do that. Then I try and discover services on my notebook, and I don't get a DUN profile. I did at one point, but it disappeared now. It also seems that OPP just disappeared as well, so the only profile available is Voice Gateway. I have reset my PC and my PPC many times, it does not seem to help. I can use the bluetooth services on my Verizon V710, including DUN without any problems. I am using the Broadcom Bluetooth stack on my Notebook (HP ZD8000). Any ideas?

I was able to get OPP back, I had disabled the option in "beam" settings. That was a dumb mistake. I still can't get the DUN profile to work, despite following the directions exactly many times over. Is anyone else having problems? Do I maybe have a new(er) software that does not support this, my ROM version is 1.05.00 WWE? The Programming menu shows that BT DUN is enabled, but the profile does not appear on my PC.

correct me if i am wrong here gents (and since i have not performed this operation on my phone). they dont charge you for this bc you are bypassing paid tethering right? i mean why would we be going to all the trouble of hacking it if we werent getting free tethering? i wouldnt think it would be using minutes but reather data...so i would think you would want to unlimited data right guys ?

    Greetings...

New to this phone and purchased it for the hi-speed internet access.

I have the phone set correctly and can use the USB connection with WModem just fine and very good speeds.

However with the Bluetooth, that is a different story. I can connect, but the speeds are very poor and end up locking up the phone and I have to soft reset. (Conntects at 115kbps) The phone always seemssto be in EV mode (big block and not the small EV with the two arrows or the 1x.) and like dials and connects in less than a second. If I was in full EVDO mode when I started, it then drops to the big EV. If I use the WModem program it goes into 1X mode. (USB mode give full EVDO)

I am using a Dell 700M and a D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth link. (Standard Windows drivers.)

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you.

I have read through this post, and am very new to this technology. I need to get some key terms or abbriviations used. What is tethering, DUN? Also correct me if I am wrong, but is this hack to enable the data plan on the phone without purchasing it?
    TIA

Tethering = Using a cable to connect to your phone.

    DUN = Dial Up Networking

Heck NO. You must PUCHASE the data plan for the highspeed access. This only activates the phone to be a modem thus using the data plan.

BTW....Now using a Kensington 2.0 Bluetooth card. Still the same data speed issue. I just think it is an issue with BT connection in general vs a USB cable. As mentioned, using USB the phone uses full EVDO, with Bluetooth, it does not seem to. Pondering.

Bluetooth transfers data at a rate of 721 Kbps, which is from three to eight times the average speed of parallel and serial ports, respectively.

EVDO has a theoretical throughput of 2.4 megabits per second.
