When you did the ##778 did you check the drop down menu in the upper left corner? I got access to the EVDO, to change it to CDMA only using that method. The menu should be right under where the start button is, it will say Display and have a triangle pointing down.
This is the feature that completely shutdown the Receive side of the EVDO portion of my phone. VZW just replaced the whole phone because messing with this setting screwed it all up. I couldnt receive calls, messages, or email when the phone said EV in the status bar. Be careful.

What did you change it to? I have it set to CDMA right now and have been having much better battery life than I did when it kept going back and forth from EV to 1x. I would be interested in knowing what not to do, because everytime you do a *228 it removes the hack and I have to do it again. Please reply with your experience so that others won't make the same mistake.
I've enabled DUN on my phone and gotten it to work via bluetooth, but I'm having a problem getting it to work via usb. When I run WModem, select USB, and click on "start" -- I always get the error "COM OPEN ERROR" on the phone. Anybody have any ideas?
For USB DUN hack, you can follow original instructions for XV6600 except wmodem.exe part.
Wmodem.exe is already in /windows directory, and it is just "hidden" system file, so you can not see it.
In order to run wmodem.exe, visit Start>Settings>Personal>Menus.
Then uncheck either Help or Downloads, whatever you don't see the use from Start Menu.
You can select up to 7 items from this Menus.
Then browse down to bottom, so you can find "Wireless Modem".
Select "Wireless Modem".
Then go back to Today screen, and if you select "Start", you will see "Wireless Modem".
If you want to use the phone as modem via USB, you can shutdown ActiveSync from your PC/Laptop, and run this "Wireless Modem" from your XV6700.
Select "USB" from Connection Type, and click "Start".
Then your PC/Laptop will find new device from USB Connection, and apply the device driver file from XV6600 USB DUN hack info, and run USB CDMA modem application to dial to #777 with your-number@vzw3g.com as username, vzw as password.

Hi Jamie,
Did you try it with USB cable connected between your laptop/PC and XV6700?
I found the Wmodem entry and have opened it in my xv6700, but it still does not connect with dun to the laptop I have..
I also can't seem to copy the wmodem file from the ppc to my desktop, and copy it back without read and hidden settings. Have tried it with resco explorer from the ppc itself, but also can't change the settings from read and hidden.

I have gone through the steps also to activate WModem. When I run the WModem APPLICATION, I attach the USB wire, select USB as the Connection Type and press Start. I also get the WM:ERROR - COM OPEN ERROR (COM8). Any suggestions that can help me fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Ok everyone,
I finally figured out what my problem was. I happen to have a bluetooth GPS (Pharos) and had previously paired it with my xv6700. You have to assign a com port to it, and I assigned com port 8. This is the same port that the WModem tries to use for the USB Modem connection, d'oh! So I unpaired the GPS, re-paired it, and assigned it to a different com port (com port 4) and everything is working fine. I can use DUN via USB and I can connect to my GPS.
Windows Mobile does not have a good way to see what com ports are assigned to what devices, so as far as I could tell, there is no good way to figure this out.

Unfortunately, I do not have any Bluetooth associations with my XV6700. I just received the phone yesterday and have not had a chance to pair it with anything. Does anyone have any other thoughts of what could be causing the COM PORT 8 conflict?

Reason: My mom didn't give me the phone... don't know how this title got assigned
The only pairing I have is a 820 motorola bluetooth headset... Anyone have any other ideas. I still cannot:
1. use ##332... to access my epst settings.
2. Cannot copy/move the wmodem file from my ppc to my pc, and take off the read/hidden settings, and copy it back to the ppc
3. ##778 does not give any access for bt_dun settings
4. have gotten to wmodem in resco explorer, and have made a shortcut to access it, but it still does not dun to my laptop...
5. haven't been able to get the xv6700 to be in evdo connection and have the phone on at the same time. (I'm in a non-evdo area, but still can connect via national access)
Anyone has any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate them!!

I had to copy the file to my PC, attrib from command prompt, then zip the file up, copy the zip to the XV6700, and unzip it with the pre-installed Zip program . Zip was able to overwrite the existing file.
