T-Mobile really has to get this problem with MMS's coming from different numbers under control now!

I am surprised at some of the low rates. Mine was 607kbps on EDGE on my 3125. Can't wait to get the 3G going with a new phone soon.

Isn't the theoretical maximum speed of EDGE 474 kpbs, yet to be achieved by anyone? How could you be getting 607 kbps? My average is 220 kpbs on my Nokia E61.

It was probably through a proxy or could have been a cache read. He didn't get 600k+ on EDGE.

Some 473.x kb/s yes but it's highly unlikely to happen anytime soon as it would require 8 downlink slots but there's been no such GPRS Class defined: http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml

Reality is 4 slots top = half of that speed, 236kb/s in best case.

He cannot get such speed over GPRS/EDGE, period.

Has anyone done A/B testing between a Sierra 860 and 875? I'd like to know if there are real world noticeable improvements in either download or upload speeds with the newer air card.

That's incorrect measurement and/or some caching stuff.

The results I got from Escondido, Ca 92029 Today on a 1 mb test are:
    1245 kbits/sec
    1.081s latency
    7.659 d/l time

Don't know if this is good but seems very responsive to me.

Hey all, so just saw this thread (missed the sticky threads the first time; my bad! :P) and was posting on the "3G Rollout for OC and LA" thread and started my own thread on data cards in that subforum (PDA/Smartphones/Data Cards), subject "Cing 3G Data Card DL/UL speeds that people are seeing?" if anyone wants to check those out.

Anyhoo anyone know exactly how to tell what HSDPA speeds the current Cingular 3G devices support since not all HSDPA is created equal. For example the Sierra WS 860 only does cat3/4 DL (1.8 Mbps) whereas the 875 does cat5/6 (3.6 Mbps)--though both are still only 384kbps up (right?). The fact that EVDOrevA can do like 2Mbps up makes me cringe (and with a latency of 50ms--anyone actually seen this yet?).

EVDO aside, I was just wondering how the guy in SD (cjmedina) got 1.7 Mbps with his BJ. I was going to get an 875 to replace my 860 but if my BJ (I live in LA where they just turned on the HSDPA on the 15th) can't get more than ~900kbps then will it do me any good to get an 875? Anyone know what level of HSDPA got turned on in LA?

I thought LA would've had cat5/6 HSDPA since they just turned it on, but either it doesn't or there's something wrong with my BJ (since cjmedina was able to get twice as much DL on his). I should test somewhere with a little stronger signal but I didn't think it could make that much difference could it (I'm unfortunately at -90dBm in my house)?

    Thoughts anyone?

Cingular sites are 3.6 mbps enabled from a radio standpoint. What the transmission to/from the cell site supports is probably a more limiting factor than anything at this point as the airwaves aren't exactly full of HSPDA terminals right now...

    3G Tethering with BlackJack

Equipment: Samsung BlackJack BT Tethering with Dell XPS M1210

I am in Anaheim, CA but it seems as though the Cingular Proxy gives different locations when running these tests. Yesterday Speedtest.net reported I was in New Jersey and today I am in Missouri. In any case I am getting consistent speeds.
