Very steady 950-990 with 1-2 bars in my house. I also find that 3G holds a conversation better with low signal then gsm...at least now that they've finished tweaking things here.
I get 600-700Kbps consistently, no matter the signal strength on 3G. My phone, which is EDGE, gets 80 with a bad signal, up to about 140 with a good signal, usually hovering around 120.
I think they only use half a T1 for 3G data around here. Even with stupidly good signal strength at 4 in the morning on a weekday I can't get over 700Kbps on 3G. Not that I'm complaining..the latency is good enough that for anything but downloading large files it seems perfectly snappy.

V3xx on 3G Connected Via Bluetooth ranges from 500-600kb/s download and 150-190 kb/s upload with latency between 170 and 250 ms. If I was on my laptop now I would post the image(s)... maybe later.
My record is 1.3mbps. Average around 500-700kbps. Using Sierra 860 aircard.
You mentioned the Sierra AirCard 860. I have the 875, but I haven't been able to test it. How is the 875 better than the 860? Is it the 3.6Mbps??? Will you really be able to see the difference between tethering via a phone and using the card. Plus, calls will go right into voicemail as Cingular doesn't allow two SIM cards, right? Or would it be ok to have one SIM for the card and one for the phone?
Also, do you tether via wap.cingular or isp.cingular? isp.cingular is mainly for tethering if I'm not mistaken, right? But when I tether using wap.cingular, it is just as fast and reliable as isp.cingular, so what's the point of going with isp.cingular???
I will post pics of my results tomorrow. Downloading files from a pay per use news server is a good benchmark. Nothing can get cached. On the 8525 using an AT&T blue card, download speeds are 968Kb/s. The speed must be capped because it does not fluctuate up or down more then 2%.
Those speeds are using a USB cable. The best I can get using a 1.1 Bluetooth connection is 300Kb/s. Has anyone tried a Bluetooth 2.0 card with EDR (Enhanced Data Rate (3Mb/s)) with the 8525? I wonder if it can sustain those bit rates.

My speeds appear to be capped although at a much lower speed (about 600kbps with USB.) The problem, though appears to be with my PC. I have access to 2 8525's both of which give me a max of 600k on my laptop. If I got and put either of them on a PC in the other room I get 1M+. No matter what I have done I can't figure out why I'm not getting the higher speeds.

What kind of laptop is it, what OS, and how old is it?
