Unfortunately Cingular is getting the IP addresses it uses for hsdpa from a 3rd party and so it doesn't allow reverse DNS and wouldn't map to Cingular if it did. It maps to mycingular at edge speeds and below only.

Looks like upgrades to 7 Mbps capable devices are on their way.
Live calls in Las Vegas with 7.2Mbps test gear.

These tests are exciting. Is there a map showing where 3G is getting rolled out in what timeframe?

    Thanks

How about a frapper map of where people are seeing HSDPA switched on? I know that the service may be available unofficially for many months before they officially announce it.

    Just a thought......

I just did several speed tests from the western side of Raleigh, NC. All had over 900 Kbps downloads.

You mean in speedtest, right? Because I find Opera Mobile a lot slower and buggier than PIE.

This one I did from Parsippany, NJ a little while ago.... signal was around -75dBm

It looks like I was getting a connection from Kansas because that was what the speedtest.net recommended and usually gave me the fastest results. If I picked a server from NJ or NY, I would get slower speeds. However, that latency at just 195ms was great!

I performed other tests to other servers but with lesser results like 513kbps, 914kbps and 326kbps.

It was great to be able to stream audio from my laptop using HSDPA and then automatically fallback to EDGE without interruption as I approached home. Although audio streaming on EDGE didn't have any problems either because the bitrate I needed for the stream was around 64kbps.

The Aircards really improve the latency. On my V635, tethering on EDGE would give me a latency of 1500ms to 2000ms, which made web surfing frustrating, whereas with the Aircard, the latency on EDGE was always around 500ms ~ 550ms which made websurfing much more responsive.

Wow, THAT"S great, I agree. Below 200ms becomes comparable to an everyday desktop on a crowded cable connection.

I hope with the upcoming Class 8 upgrade - Cingular already tested it back in March - we'll get latency around 100ms...
