I'm not sure if it came across that way but my ActiveSync 4.1 issues are not really to do with the "Connecting" of the device. It connects fine every single time. The issues are with Syncing. It will either get lost in "Looking for changes" land (most common) or will decide to not sync my Contacts, etc.
It's probably the lowest-quality most worthless POS I've ever used in my life. The sync software that comes free with my SonyEricsson T68i from 4 years ago works better.

Well this is the error I get most of the time. I will connect and then i get this
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully." it then disconnects.
Try doing this:
1) Disconnect your 8125
2) Delete the device in ActiveSync menu.
3) Plug your device in
4) It will bring up the Setup Wizard to setup the partnership
5) Uncheck EVERYTHING (or everything except Favorites and Files - these do not use any PIM, they are just files)
6) Finish the setup
7) It should now connect and synch those 2 things which so far (knocks on wood) have been reliable since no PIM is involved
Once it has finished syncrhonizing and it's still connected you can run Intellisync to sync your PIM!
WARNING! Just noticed something..
When I connect my 8125 at work it takes the proxy settings of Internet Explorer on my desktop and puts it into my MediaNet settings...I was like WTF!!!
This allows me to surf the net using my desktops network connection when it's connected but it doesn't automatically delete the proxy setting when you disconnect so nothing works unless I remove it manually.
So if you are connecting your 8125 to a PC that has proxy settings, make sure you remove them after every disconnect.
Another annoying thing...
Yeah but how will I sync my calander and contacts?
Andru,
Intellisync can sync your Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Tasks and Email. It does it 100x better than ActiveSync.
It's a separate app - it installs an app on your 8125 that circumvents ActiveSync. The only thing needed is for ActiveSync to be "Connected" to your device.
While I'm sure some of these problems are directly related to Activesync itself, many problems may be caused by something else. This is the first time I've ever used Activesync for anything and I have zero problems. I plug and unplug my 8125 from my PC tons of times and it has never failed to work. I have read that firewalls on the PC can cause problems with it. It could be some problem with the PC or OS that conflicts with it.
As I said, I'm sure Activesync has some flaws, but people can't generalize and say it's a crap program that never works. It works for me 100% of the time and I'm willing to bet there's lots of others out there like me.
The real issue with it lies in the fact that there is absolutely ZERO config or ways to troubleshoot the problem.Originally Posted by Greywolfmm
My contacts don't sync - why? I have no freakin clue. I get no errors, I get no options, nada. It's all guesswork, this to me is shoddy design.
It sometimes sits on "looking for changes" for 5 mins, sometimes for 20 mins...why?? This is subsequent syncs...so nothing has changed. No explaination for this either.
I think MSFT designed this to work with the very plain vanilla standard Windows/Outlook setup so any slight variation from that and you are totally hosed. Sucks totally and is unacceptable IMHO...if every third-party sync program can handle this why can't MSFT??!?!
The "voice speed dial" feature that came with the 8125 is not "Microsoft Voice Command". I bought MS Voice Command ($40) with my SX66 and loved it (albeit, that it didn't work with bluetooth). Has anyone tried installing MS Voice Command (to replace the "voice speed dial") ?
I gave up on fixing it. Went in Intellisync - yes you have to pay but it's worth not having the headache...
For all of you having trouble with activesync have you set up your firewall to allow access? Just google it and you should find instrunctions.
I don't have a personal fire wall. So I have ruled that out.
For #2 I can tell you that you should simply enable SSID broadcast, connect to the network once, and then you can disable it again and the network should continue showing up in your Network Connections on the phone. That's how I did it and it's been working for a few days now. I'm not sure about the MAC address filter, but it shoudn't be a problem. Just check in your router what the mac address is of the device and add it to the filter list.Originally Posted by rjc1072

That's not what he meant. He wants to know if he can just hold down one button which will simultaneously lock and power off the device (not power off the phone, just the screen) so that even when the device turns back on using the power button, the keys will still be locked.Originally Posted by passed4
I'm interested in the answer to this question also because when you get a phone call, the device turns on, and if you don't answer it, the device stays on for another 2 minutes or so and buttons could get pushed in your pocket.
So if anyone knows the answer, please post.
