    Cingular 8125: Tips/Ticks/Hacks/Downloads

    OK, I'm making this thread (dunno if it's leagal or not to make) so everybody can enjoy your 8125 to the fullest. Below are links to some essential programs you'll need (from different sites) to do things like overlcock your 8125, enable 802.11g (even though the 8125 can't handle the speeds, its still nce to be able to connect to a G router) and other things. Let the games begin!

    a lot of this info came from the wizard wasteland blog, he's the man. im just centralizing the info so you all aren't running around all over the place. i'm sure im missing some stuff i already thought of before, so feel free to add. can a mod make this a stick if it's not too much to ask?

    Overclock your 8125 (use at your own risk, read up on this before you do it!)
    The tool does work, and according to response in the XDA Developers Forum clock rates up to 240 Mhz are possible without your HTC Wizard becoming unstable.

    However, the processor goes back to the default clock speed when your HTC Wizard goes into standby. A nice trick from the XDA Developer Forum enables you to choose a specific clock speed for applications that can use a little boost. Think about apps like Skype or TomTom. The trick is to change the shortcut to the desired program in the \Windows\Start folder to something like this:

    * OmapClock -clock 216 -launch “\path\to\app\skype.exe” -restore

    From now on, every time you start Skype from the Start menu, the processor will be set to a clock speed of 216 Mhz.

    Enable 802.11g
    The HTC Wizard has WIFI built-in, which in itself is wonderful. However, some manufacturers have decided not to enable 802.11g connectivity by default. More and more people own wireless network equipment based on the 802.11g standard and want to connect with their HTC Wizard.

    A registry tweak that allows connecting to a 802.11g network has been found. Be aware that using this tweak will not give you a much faster wireless connection on your HTC Wizard, the hardware is simply not fast enough to cope with the theoretical speed of 54 Mb/s. However, the tweak will enable you to connect to 802.11g-only networks, which is a big advantage.

    Please take a look at this topic on the XDA Developers Forum for more information. In this topic people discuss a .cab file that tweaks some more settings on your HTC Wizard than just the enabling of 802.11g, but I’ll discuss those in a future post.

    If you feel brave (don’t worry), you can simply make the following changes in the registry:

    * Use Total Commander to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
    * Assign a value of 1 to dot11SupportedRateMask
    * Assign a value of 8 to dot11SupportedRateMaskG
    * Perform a soft reset

    Backup your 8125

    WiFi Scanner (scans for wireless routers/access points)

    If your 8125 gets stolen...MUST HAVE!
    If someone steals your device, they probably want to either change the name of the owner, or cold boot it altogether. Either way, with IIWPO installed the device detects that the owner name doesn’t contain the name that you have set at the next wakeup, and sends one or more SMS messages to a number you have set. In the best case, the new ‘owner’ provided address and all other relevant information. If he/she didn’t, at least you have the new phone number of your device.

    Increase your 8125 speed
    The following registry tweaks will increase the operating speed of your HTC Wizard:

    * Use Total Commander to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\
    * Assign a value of 4096 to CacheSize
    * Assign a value of 1 to EnableCache
    * Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt\
    * Assign a value of 4096 to ReplStoreCacheSize
    * Perform a soft reset

    VoiceCommand over BT:

    http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/arti...n=expand,44202

    NOTE! It works but for some bizzarre reason I can't figure out...once you've used it once, it won't work again unless you soft-reset the device....it may just very well be I'm doing something wrong though..

    Please someone try it and let me know if you can keep it alive. It's a great feature to have if it can be consistant...I'm not about to soft-reset my PDA everytime I want to voice dial.

    HELp!

    FYI...did some more digging, looks like it's an issue with certain headsets. Just my luck, got a Moto H700 recently and it's one of the ones that will only dial-once. Other headsets will supposedly work.

    So far, the 8125 isn't winning a lot of points...

    No it doesn't, but you can buy it from AOL for 19.99 (I think).

    As of the past year or so, yes. AIM is only free for the computer. The mobile versions cost money. I do, however, have an older UK bare bones build (which at one point was free) and worked great on WM2003. I'll try it on my new JAMin and let you know how it works. If it works I'll host it on my site and post the link here.

    it's ridiculous to pay for AIM...mobile or not....there must be some version of something that supports AIM for free
